As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.![]()
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Wayne Swan blames government woes on contradictions at heart of budget
"You can't say that we need entitlement reform and go out and attack the incomes of some of the lowest income and most vulnerable in the community while you're proposing a $20 billion paid parental leave scheme."
Mr Swan said the Labor Party lost the debate over its introduction of carbon pricing early on by allowing it to be referred to as a carbon tax, a slip that was jumped on by those opposed to the policy.
โAround this time, vested interests assisted by a much more opinionated media hoed into the government [in a way] that has rarely been seen in the history of Australian politics", he said.
He said the goal of the vested interests "is to seek radical change to the distribution of wealth through the accumulation of even more political power in their hands".
Mr Swan said Australia was witnessing an โAmericanisationโ of those on the right of the political spectrum.
โAs the budget in its aftermath has demonstrated, everything that the Abbott government now does is a search for a political strategy to sell that divisive unfair, un-Australian agenda to a disbelieving public at large.โ

@***super_nova*** wrote:Yes, but does that mean that you gave up eating knรถdel, Weihnachtsgans, or Schweinshaxe mit saurkraut? Does that mean that you were given white Tip Top instead of the much tastier and more nutritious Baurnbrot? That you spoke only English at home? That your parents would not listen to music by Bach or read a German book?
Because nowadays it seems to be required from migrants to turn into instant Australians, which is impossible. To be a "real" Australian has to develop over time, and it is not going to happen if people are marginalised. How can person feel Australian if they are being told "we do not want you here, go back where you came from".
I think that some people confuse integration with assimilation. Immigrants should be expected to integrate, but not to assimilate. If they want to, fair enough, but it would take a long time, as you say.

So the reason that the NSW Liberal Party is in trouble over corruption is that according to Abbott the Labor Party made corruption illegal. Apparently developers have a right to bribe corrupt politicians. Buying political influence is a right.

what does it mean anyway, Team Australia, are we getting ready to put the LNP govt on an orange boat and send them away? They certainly are not putting the "people" first. What "values"? Is there a list somewhere so I can check and make sure I am on Team Australia? This is nothing more than pandering to the xenophobic lowest common denominator. What a hateful, divisive little person abbott is.
He went on to say "everyone has got to put this country, its interests, its values and its people first, and you don't migrate to this country unless you want to join our team".

I had need to call into an employment agency today, the jobnetwork type run by Mission Aus. I was most shocked to see on the wall, a large, printed to match the rest of the set of posters, bible verse. **bleep**? When did bible verses become appropriate wall signs in government funded organisations that are not religion based?
