As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

So even though officially the outcome is 'not proceeding with charges' its as good as being cleared (none gets a cleared outcome as such) and his life should not be affected by it. its a terrible thing. If its not true and made up I hope the police consider charges against the accuser.
What a waste of police time and resources. Why did she come out with it on social media? I mean, I do understand that some people do not go to police then they get raped because they do not want to talk about it, they cannot deal with it, they are ashamed (even that they should not be). Does anybody really believes that this woman was too shy to do anything about it for 20+ years, and then suddenly got urge to post it on facebook? Why not go first to the police? Cannot wait for her to sell her story to WW.

another day another lecture from someone who is on $700,000+, see we can't increase the income tax rate for the big end of town because it would encourage avoidance..:womanlol and according to some of the LNP spintrolls in the comments we can't increase company tax because that's unfair as these people take all the risk, "all the risk"? So do they risk their lives working in the pits, on construction sites, on the wharves, in heavy industry....of course not.
Budget could have been sold better: Treasury secretary Martin Parkinson
Raising the top tax rate was not an alternative, he said. It would not bring in enough money, in part because it would encourage avoidance. Australia had to look at increasing indirect taxes – if not the GST then payroll tax.

Tony Abbott’s logic is impeccable. Removal of the carbon and mining taxes is tax reform from his radical viewpoint. Dropping corporate tax and personal tax are the next steps in the plan.
Tony’s logic is that we don’t need the taxes we collect. Big ticket expenditures like health, education and welfare are to become user pays. People purchase privately, or if they don’t have the money, they do without. Quite simply really.
Abbott is nothing more than an economic fundamentalist. He wants to destroy civil society and any notIon of commons- pity, I like a jog in the well-tended park and a read in tHe local library. guess I am just a parasite.
He lacks any empathy about any human needs, that can’t be financially supported by the individual who has those needs. Lives will be lost and unnecessary suffering will be increased by his retreat from universal standards of decency in public service provision.
He views taxes being vital only for security services- defence, police, courts, prisons. His policy represents a form of economic state terrorism against the poor.
His policy implies a deeply misanthropic attitude to his fellow man. Sure people can be a pain- but most of us are pretty harmless if left to live out our lives in a fair society.
Our electoral and political system does not offer up people possessing empathy and of strong moral character who give a damn about doing the right thing simply because it is the right thing to do.
It is more like a competition that can only be won by the wealthy, influential, anointed ones. The survivors and supreme bullshi t artists.
Once they’ve won that competition, you better be damn well sure they’re gonna collect their prize.
....personally, IMO, all along this budget has been a smoke and mirrors stunt to justify increasing the GST to 12%.....12.5%.....or even try for 15%

Greg Hunt clashes with Solar Council CEO over marginal seat campaign
John Grimes accuses environment minister of threatening him with negative media coverage if he did not drop campaign
A row between Greg Hunt and the chief executive of the Australian Solar Council has flared, with the renewable energy advocate accusing the minister of threatening him with negative media coverage if he did not desist from a campaign against the government.
John Grimes said the federal environment minister called him to “warn him off” a campaign that would target marginal electorates across Australia before the next election.
Grimes told the ABC that Hunt threatened a “pointed, public attack on me and my character” if he did not shut down the campaign.
Hunt dismissed the allegation as “patently false”.
Grimes has promised to continue the public campaign to retain the Renewable Energy Target (RET), which has been subject to a review by businessman Dick Warburton and is set to be either axed or wound back by the government, if the government is able to secure support in the Senate.
Hunt said Grimes had continued to attack the government in public, despite knowing it was committed to renewable energy. Hunt called the solar council chief executive “deceptive” and a “failure” in an unusually strong attack when they both spoke on the same ABC radio show on Thursday.
“He’s so scared by the campaign that he has reverted to playing the man rather than the policy,” he said. “It was absolutely uncalled for and shows how much stress the man is under. The government has got no policy response so it would rather shoot the messenger.
“I’m the wrong target, really. It’s Tony Abbott and his radical anti-renewables agenda that should be his target. That is what is threatening thousands of jobs and 4,500 small businesses.”
The Australian Solar Council held a campaign event in Redcliffe, Queensland on Thursday night, attended by more than 500 local people. Luke Howarth, the local Coalition MP for Petrie, was invited to the event but did not attend.

Budget office says health not a long-term spending issue
The independent Parliamentary Budget Office has called into question claims health spending is spiralling out of control, noting government spending is projected to grow in line with the economy over the next decade and that health will account for only a small amount to that growth.
The PBO projected government spending would climb from $384 billion to $682 billion over the coming decade and warned that "elevated community expectations are likely to put ongoing pressure on governments to increase discretionary spending on major programs over the medium term".
The PBO report also found spending on medical benefits accounts for just 1.8 per cent of the projected growth in government spending over the next decade, while spending on public hospitals accounts for just 1.4 per cent.
