Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

The decision contains 3 basic elements.

Firstly, contrary to popular myth often sprouted by those who object to detention in the first instance, you know the “it is not legal to seek asylum” crowd, the decision confirms that until the application has been processed and competed by the making of a valid determination, those claiming asylum fall within the definition of an “unlawful non-citizen”, and as such, are “liable for detention”.

Secondly the decision makes it clear that a person cannot remain in detention after a valid destination has been made. Therefore, if for any reason the determination is invalidated, as is what happened here, then the person’s status reverts back to what it was before, namely, an illegal-non citizen liable or detention

Thirdly the decision states that both the decision and its implementation must be made as soon as “reasonably practicable”. Not as “quickly as possible”. Or as “expeditiously as possible”. But as” reasonably practicable”. And anyone who has ever has anything to do with courts or tribunals will tell you, when it comes to a legal direction as to when something must be done, the words “reasonably practicable” are so subjective and vague and open to interpretation as to be pretty much meaningless...

Finally, and for completeness sake though application of this decision is limited to when a person can be detained and what must be done whilst they are I detention, it provides a comprehensive overview of the detention process and the legal framework that underpins it. As such it is a worthwhile read to anyone who wants to formulate their own opinion, as distinct to having them spoon fed to them by a publication of, well let’s just say, of questionable objectivity

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

“As chair of the finance committee ... what responsibility do you accept for the fact that these funds from illicit donors came to the Liberal party?” Watson asked.

Sinodinos initially demurred. “Are you asking me about compliance responsibility? Are you asking me about finance responsibility? The problem I have with that question is that it’s a very general question.”

Finally, he said: “I don’t accept responsibility because I made my best endeavours for that not to happen.”

So shutting your eyes and sticking your fingers in your ears so you can't see or hear can be described as best endeavours now. That's good to know.

Icac has previously heard that the party’s top fundraiser, Paul Nicolaou, had suggested funnelling donations to the federal party through the FEF at meetings when Sinodinos was present.

“If there was a suggestion, it went over my head,” Sinodinos said.

I also wondered how come he was supposed to be asistant treasurer if these things

go over his head

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

I do wonder  why no distinction is drawn between a bunch of  "corrupt" not so bright  Lib politicians receiving monies from developers and 3rd parties, and  ALP luminaries stealing it from trade union members a criminal offence, or manipulating juicy mining leases.

If the above from BIG are deemed "fallen", how would you describe Thomson and Williamson, crashed and burned?.  Obeid and family have done very well  financially, and Obeid  has been recommended for criminal prosecution . Jackson  it  also seems is not above some members funds usage for herself, and she is still in the ALP.

I am sure there will be no comments forthcoming BIG apropos past parliamentarians  criminal histories / jail time  wherein the ALP are again clear  winners, including  2-3 child sex convictions on record.

You have to admit when it comes to money and fraud/corruption the ALP  win hands down when it comes to the amounts "nicked", as opposed to the Libs and their measly, freely given re-election donations.

I think leopard and spots would be applicable,  so in the manner of the Pink Myops images:

no. I disagree. I think the libs win hands down by far in  corruption, money laundering, dirty deals, one only has to look at ashbygate, ICAC ridiculous failed RC's.  They got Kahty Jackson though.. not sure that it was worth the millions of tax payers dollars spent
