As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

oh dear!
the libs didn't want us to have that seat on the security council did they?
I can't remember whether it was Rudd or Gillard who secured it & its a good thing they did, because it gives a voice, Hope abbott sees the merit it in now after fighting against it

morning Boris,
I do remember the libs fighting tooth and nail against securing that seat on the UN security council, good to see they've changed their mind and are making full use of it.
Murdoch tried to interfere in the Scottish referendum too , so we aren't the only ones in the world having a problem with this man and his empire

good article from The Guardian. What a dangerous mob this govt is, they keep stoking the hatred on the one hand and then call for calm. Why every move by asio is on the front page yet asylum seeker info is top secret. The other artice is from Press Tv and is written by an American, it's something I have been wondering about.
Jacqui Lambie's Islam slur: the rhetoric changes, the bigots stay the same
Two decades ago the rightwing said we would be โswamped by Asiansโ, but no longer. Even Pauline Hansonโs old party has made the shift to stoking anxiety over Islam

Dr. Strangelove vs. ISIL
We hear reports that this may be the most dangerous threat the United States has ever faced. I won't minimize that statement. I can only question the absurdity of this premise. We have a military budget that exceeds $445 billion a year. We have the largest air force in the world. Second largest to the Air Force is our navy. We have battleships, aircraft carriers, stealth bombers, stealth fighter planes; we have tanks, drones, armored personal carriers and vast amounts of other weapons of war. So the premise, if you were making a satire of this situation, would be that the United States cannot defeat an army of 30,000 religious zealots who ride around in pickup trucks with guns on the back. Too illogical for a movie? It all goes back to the old Mark Twain statement, "The only difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to be credible." Of course the moderate Muslims could go to war against the Muslim extremists, but that wouldn't be in the world of absurdity.

Agree with your comments, boris - asylum seeker info top secret but ASIO on front page...

Top sexist comment for the previous year
Christoper Pyne wins Ernie Award 2014 for his comments on the impact of uni fees on women
The Minister for Education Christopher Pyne beat the Prime Minister Tony Abbott in a tight leadership contest at Parliament House last night.
The Prize? Australiaโs Top Sexist; and the competition was fierce.
When it came to the vote, that special loathing, long and loud, was reserved for Christopher Pyne, who won the silver Ernie in the political category for claiming that increases in uni fees won't disproportionately affect women because "women are well represented amongst the teaching and nursing students. They will not be able to earn the high incomes that dentists and lawyers will earn."
Victory in that category catapulted him straight into the running for Gold โ and after a battle at the level of silver (against fellow Cabinet Minister Eric Abetz) the Education Minister romped home in the top field.
The Clinton (for repeat offenders)

Joe Hockey says $30b overestimation has left 2013-14 in deficit by $48.5b
The final budget deficit for the 2013-14 financial year has come in at $48.5 billion - $30 billion more than forecast, Treasurer Joe Hockey has said.
Mr Hockey, who said the deficit was Australia's second largest in dollar terms, attacked the previous Labor government for the deterioration in the country's debt levels. [yawn]
Mr Hockey said that government decisions, including his call to transfer $8.8 billion to the Reserve Bank, accounted for $11 billion of the $30 billion blowout. [did Labor make him do that?]
Coalition government's responsibility
Shadow treasurer Chris Bowen and opposition finance spokesman Tony Burke hit back at the Treasurer's claims.
They said the Abbott government was responsible for the decline, having been in control of the budget since September last year.
"Last time we checked, the Abbott government has been responsible for budget and economic policy since September 2013. That's 75 per cent of the 2013-14 financial year," they said.
Labor said that under the Abbott government the deficit had deteriorated from $30.1 billion in the pre-election economic and fiscal outlook to $48.5 billion.
"Of the $18.4 billion blow-out, over half - $10.8 billion โ is due to policy decisions taken by the Abbott government, including the $8.8 billion grant to the Reserve Bank of Australia," Mr Bowen and Mr Burke said.
