Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Tony Abbott’s foreign affairs disasters pass 40

Follies and faux pas by the Abbott Government abroad are no longer merely occasions for mockery and mirth it is now more serious than that. French correspondent Alan Austin reports.

THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS BLUNDERS by the hapless Abbott Government in September bring to forty the number of serious issues that have diminished Australia’s global standing.

Several have given rise to derision, others have provoked sheer bewilderment, but some are now damaging Australia’s safety and security.

Blunder number 40 was to earn Australia the title ‘world’s dirtiest nation’.

The Slate in the USA headlined its piece:

‘The Saudi Arabia of the South Pacific: How Australia became the dirtiest polluter in the developed world.’

Its critique was blunt:

‘In the year since they took office, Prime Minister Tony Abbott and his Liberal-led coalition have already dismantled the country’s key environmental policies. Now they’ve begun systematically ransacking its natural resources. In the process, they’ve transformed Australia from an international innovator on environmental issues into quite possibly the dirtiest country in the developed world.’

surprise, surprise, maybe they could try crowd funding so all those who support the war that isn't a war can put their money where their mouths are - can't support our poor but we can afford a war

Mathias Cormann ‘not ruling out’ raising taxes to pay for Iraq mission

Finance minister looking ‘across the board’ for ways to fund $500m-a-year involvement as the defence minister warns of ‘quite a long campaign’ ahead

Finance minister Mathias Cormann refused to rule out raising taxes to help pay for the $500m-a-year Iraq mission, as defence minister David Johnston acknowledged weakness in the Iraqi army and the growingIslamic State (Isis) forces could lead to “quite a long campaign”.

Still struggling to get the last of its budget savings measures through the Senate, the government has estimated the Iraq involvement will cost half a billion a year while it’s post-budget national security package will cost $630m over four years to boost security and police agencies.

“I’m not going to rule anything in or out,” Cormann told Sky News.

“Our commitment is to get government spending back under control, to get back onto our trajectory as a result of our decisions to reduce spending.

as our excuse for a govt has so eagerly signed us up, this seems the right place for this.

UK's Arab allies must stop funding ISIL: UK Army chiefs

Two former British army generals and a defense secretary have claimed that Britain’s Arab allies channel cash to Takfiri militants in the Middle East.

Lord Dannatt, a former chief of the General Staff, Jonathan Shaw, a former assistant chief of the Defence Staff, and Liam Fox, the former defence secretary have specifically accused Saudi Arabia and Qatar of contributing to the rise of violent extremism.

All of the three senior military figures agree that airstrikes against the ISIL militants are useless and a more suitable approach would be for the British government to pressure Arab leaders into dealing with extremism by cutting off funds for terrorist networks.

“It is completely unacceptable that some individuals in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere see advantage in channeling large sums of money to the so-called Islamic State,” said Dannatt.

Shaw referred to the current military campaign as “futile” unless its underlying ideology was also directly tackled.

“It (this ideology) is funded by Saudi and Qatari money and that must stop,” he added.

Dannatt and Jonathan Shaw both said that the British Government’s failure in pressuring Riyadh and Doha would undermine its military actions against ISIL.

Fox accused the Persian Gulf Arab governments of financing terrorists themselves.

“Money has been flowing from rich individuals in the Gulf states, if not their governments, to finance them and their Sunni allies in their battle against the Assad regime,” he said.

According to a report carried out by The Telegraph, wealthy individuals in the Persian Gulf region have raised tens of millions of dollars for terrorist groups. The report also says Arab leaders have either chosen to ignore the problem or are complicit in the funding of the terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

The ISIL terrorists currently control large swathes of territory across Syria and Iraq. They have carried out heinous atrocities in both countries, including mass executions and beheadings of people.

mormon12, seems some still can't grasp the concept that "the left" (as described by some) aren't the one eyed, rusted on ALP supporters in everything that the cons portray them as.

Doctors warn of a Royal Commission into detention abuse

Doctors have warned that a royal commission on child abuse of minors in detention could be inevitable, as a report shows 80 per cent of paediatricians believe offshore processing of children constitutes abuse.

The research paper, Australia's treatment of refugee and asylum seeker children: the views of Australian paediatricians, published in the Medical Journal of Australia, also found gaps in paediatricians' knowledge of asylum seeker health.

Of the 139 doctors interviewed, 60 per cent knew that the Minister for Immigration, Scott Morrison, was the legal guardian of detained unaccompanied minors, while one-third of the GPs studied had used a professional interpreter service while managing refugees.

Co-author of the research paper, Professor David Isaacs, said mandatory detention of children was "traumatising" and "abhorrent".

"It won't surprise me, that in the long run there is a commission into this," Professor Isaacs said. "In later years people could be saying, oh my goodness, how could we have done this to children."

"It's not worthy of Australians, we're better than that," he said.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

There are so many reports that bombing the anti Islam takfiri terrorists isn't going to work, is anyone else wondering what the heck our 8 jets are doing there then. All our msm keep banging on about Iraq beating the terrorist rats but reading other countries media there are numerous stories about Syrian Army victories. There have already been civilian deaths from US bombing and the Turkish govt is stopping Kurds from entering Syria to help fight the rats - it's so fishy, the whole thing.
