Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Minister for Employment Eric Abetz says the backflip shows the government is listening to feedback.

It is a backdown, a backdown of a ridiculous plan that shouldn't have seen light of day, Tony Abbott.

My daughter recently applied (and was successful) for a p/t job in a new restaraunt opening in the city. 400 applicants, 50 part-time positions.

She also applied online ffor a position advt by a large supermarket chain. Got rejected. A friend of hers who works there said sometimes they reject all online applications and hire people who have put apps in to the store (often the  applicants are known to people who already work there). They advt online because they have to.

Abbott government abandons plan to make job seekers apply for 40 jobs a month

Minister for Employment Eric Abetz confirmed on Tuesday the government "has made some changes" to the scheme and will now keep the required number of monthly job applications to the current rate of 20.

Senator Abetz told the ABC the government had listened to the community and accepted forcing the unemployed to apply for 40 positions a month could "diminish" the value of genuine job applications.

"We understand that for business this is a burden," he said.

Speaking in Canberra, Prime Minister Tony Abbott said the decision did not constitute a backdown.

"Some people might like to put a pejorative on it. I would like to say isn't this the whole point of consultation? Consultation that can't result in any changes is meaningless.  The consultations that this government has will be fair dinkum".

Labor's workplace spokesman, Brendan O'Connor, told Fairfax Media the government had conducted a "humiliating backdown".

"If they had chosen to speak with employer and community groups before announcing [the 40 jobs a month plan] they would have known this was bad policy," he said.

"With a simple calculation it should have been clear to everyone that 30 million applications being sent to employers each month was as absurd as it was unfair."

He urged Senator Abetz to "pick up the phone" and consult before announcing bad policy.

WOW!

it turns out this was only a plastic sword!  Woman Surprised

http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/sword-removed-in-counterterrorism-raids-a-common-plastic-decoration-owner-...

As one man was charged with conspiring to behead a random person in Sydney's CBD, police removed a sword in an evidence bag from a Marsfield home.

But the owner of the menacing item has revealed that it is actually a plastic decoration common in almost every Shiite Muslim household.
