As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Looks like another has bailed from the Libs camp
Ms Kelly said that she has โheld her tongueโ for some time โin the interest of Party unityโ but is fed up with the Party ignoring the concerns of residents. She said that concerns over Badgerys Creek airport and roads infrastructure had been completely ignored by the Party.
โAs the Howard report so eloquently put it โ the factions have developed into untalented groups, with no conviction on local issues, which exist solely to promote their loyalists by excluding non-loyalists from party positions of influence,โ she said.
Ms Kelly said that pre-selection procedures for western Sydney seats were โcontaminatedโ by interference from the Partyโs State Executive and that it was creating a โcancerโ within the Party.
โAccordingly, I find I can no longer support the NSW Liberal Party without genuine reform as proposed by the Howard Review,โ she said.
โI have made many friends in my time in the Liberal Party and will no doubt stay friends with a lot of them โ especially those committed to reform.โ
Ms Kelly said she would โrather be outside the tent and use my voice rather than have it silencedโ.

Two very different opinions on Australias capabilities.....not to mention it will be yet another election promise broken if they aren't built here
Australian submarine production should stay in Australia says Crispin Hull
THE news this week that Indonesia is to buy submarines from South Korea with a view to eventually importing enough technology to start building their own in the near future must be quite depressing for the Australian Defence Force.
While Indonesia plans aggressively to go from importing submarines to building its own, Australia seems to be passively sliding from having its own Australian-built submarines to importing something off the shelf from abroad, or importing something and then modifying it.
First we were toying with importing a Japanese sub, with attendant bad messages to China, then a German one โ almost laughable given the difference in the length of the coastline of each nation.
A lot of popular commentary has belittled Australia's submarine effort, the construction and support of the Collins class submarine.
The commentary went along the lines that Collins proved that Australia was hopeless at this sort of thing. So if the Navy boys must have this type of toy, it would be cheaper, quicker and easier just to buy it off the shelf somewhere.
The supporting argument went along the lines that Australia is about to close its car industry and rely on much better and cheaper imports, so why not do the same with the submarine? Pardon the pun, but those arguments do not hold water.
For a start, the laws of comparative trade tell us that using subsidies to compete with countries that can produce cars more efficiently is wasteful. Producing hundreds of thousands of units that do essentially the same thing is completely different from producing just 12 highly specialised units for Australia's unique needs.
Facts and logic should point us to the proposition that if we do not build the replacement for the Collins class in Australia, there is little point in having a submarine fleet at all. We should ask why do we need a submarine fleet? Range and endurance, independence, stealth, potency and deterrence.
In 2000, HMAS Collins went -- without escort -- from the west coast to the east coast of Australia, then to Hawaii, to Alaska and the west coast of Canada and the US and then back home. In all, it was 21,000 nautical miles (39,000 kilometres) over 185 days, nearly all of which was underwater.
Moreover, being reliant on a foreign supplier to keep your submarines . . . er . . . underwater defeats the very purpose of having them โ independent, secure defence assets that work for you.
Australia has built up huge expertise in submarine manufacture. Yes, mistakes were made during the development of Collins, but that should be seen as valuable experience, not an excuse to give up.
In short, any money saved by buying off the shelf would be more than lost by being beholden to a foreign supplier for maintenance and support and by losing Australian skills and Australian contract business.
More briefly, build the subs in Australia or not have them at all.
Tony Abbott warns of 'substandard' submarines if Australian-made prioritised
Prime Minister Tony Abbott has refused to commit to allowing Australian companies to publicly compete to build the next generation of submarines, saying the last thing the navy wants "is a substandard submarine".
Amid signs the government is preparing to purchase vessels made overseas, Mr Abbott has said that the first priority of Defence has to be that equipment is "world class" and "at a competitive price".
Defence Minister David Johnston said in May 2013: "We will deliver those submarines from right here at ASC in South Australia. The Coalition today is committed to building 12 new submarines here in Adelaide."

it's hit fairfax -
She said the practice of circumventing state laws banning political donations from property developers "has been a widely used practice" and only recently exposed by ICAC.
"Many grass roots members believe that the State Executive has, at best, turned a blind eye, and at worst, been complicit. This exposes the corrosive control that self-interested lobbyists have over the NSW Liberal Party and how yet again reform will stall after the next election."
When contacted by Fairfax Media, Ms Kelly said the NSW Liberal Party had been in the "stranglehold of lobbyists" for the past five years and there was no longer any point being a member because no-one gets a say.
"There's no local voice in the Liberal Party, there's no reason to be a member because the lobbyists are running the party," the former Howard government minister said.
"It's created a whole bunch of 'yes' politicians.
"The factionalism is making us ineffective, every MP has a responsibility to clean it up."
Ms Kelly said her Liberal friends across the border in Victoria "laugh" at the NSW division.

yes I think the abbott has probably already done a deal with one of his "best friends" for the subs, the first article makes the same points as you - abbott has no regard for this country or its future, only who can make the most money out of it. Remember abbott said this...
To be honest, I think that Australian-made campaigns are feelgood campaigns at best. They're really gimmicks, if the truth be known.

"What do you make of this mornings allegations concerning the Vic govt MM? The article is from a credible source btw and has been heavily discussed on radio this morning "
D9275 I regard the Vic govt (and opposition) as a bunch of juvenile clowns. I would love to see IBAC with real teeth, but the Members want it to remain toothless. As for the alleged porn viewing, so what?.
I certainly do not wish to vote for either main school yard gang (greens are primary school level) so I will have a problem with the upcoming Victorian election.
