As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Abbott puts GST rise on agenda

Speaking live to SBS from Penrith football stadium, Tony Abbott told SBS that public broadcasters will not see any cuts under an Abbott government.
"No cuts to education, no cuts to health, no change to pensions, no change to the GST and no cuts to the ABC or SBS."
Interesting.
Have you asked the mods why it's ok for a man to call you BIG (when you've repeatedly asked him not to) but not OK for you to respond in kind?
Different rules apply for different people.

So you support drownings at sea then...... HHMMMm interesting.....
You also support people coming here illegally
You must also support our country being flooded by illegal’s I take it
If they are going to drown they will drown heading away from Australia just as easily as they would heading to Australia.
When the alternative is prison or fear of death a 50/50 chance of making it to safe land or drowning at sea looks positive.
When was our country ever flooded with illegals? We just made one Gov of SA, does he count as a floodee?

not that there is much point but anyway.....
Are they illegals? No, and Scott Morrison should know better
If I listened to our politicians and relied on the tabloids and talkback radio, I would probably think asylum seekers were illegals. I would probably think they were a potential threat to our national security, and that the government was right to keep them from our shores. I might also think asylum seekers should be stopped from endangering their own lives by taking risky boat journeys to Australia, and that sending a strong message of deterrence was the right thing to do.
Or I might just think they should wait their turn until a resettlement place came up and they could come in ''the right way''.
However logical these conclusions might seem, the problem is that they are based on flawed premises.
If we don't have accurate information, then we can't help but draw false conclusions.
Scott Morrison has issued a directive that asylum seekers who arrive by boat are now to be known as ''illegals''. Terminology matters because it shapes our understanding of a phenomenon. If people are described as ''illegals'', this creates an assumption that they have broken the law and deserve to be treated as criminals.
Both these assumptions are wrong. Article 31 of the Refugee Convention - the very provision on which the government bases its use of the word ''illegal'' - says that actions that would otherwise be illegal, such as entering without a visa, must not be treated as illegal if a person is seeking asylum. This is because the drafters of the Refugee Convention recognised that the very nature of refugee flight may mean that people arrive without travel documents.
Everyone has a right under international law to seek asylum from persecution and other serious human rights violations.
Indeed, even the international treaties on human trafficking and smuggling stress the fact an asylum seeker is trafficked or smuggled must not affect their right to claim asylum and receive protection.
Jane McAdam is Scientia Professor of Law and the founding director of the Andrew and Renata Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law at the University of NSW.

I just watched QandA, one of the best for a long time. With the brilliant Geoffrey Robertson. He gave Abbott a few deserved serves.
He also stressed that boat arrivals are NOT illegal. He also stated that "at this moment", there are 1.8 million refugee children in the world.
Worth watching if anyone missed it.

Unaccompanied child refugees on Nauru report beatings, death threats
Four unaccompanied boys living in the community on Nauru end up in hospital after assault on Sunday leaves one unconscious
Four child refugees released to live in the community in Nauru say they were physically assaulted on Sunday night, and threatened with death if they stayed on the island.
The boys – aged between 15 and 17 and without parents on Nauru – have told Guardian Australia they were stopped by a group of Nauruan men on motorbikes as they walked home in the evening.
“They said ‘who are you?’. We said ‘we are UAM [unaccompanied minor] refugees’,” one of the boys said. “They started swearing, they said ‘all mother-bleeper refugees, we will kill you, this is our country and no one can protect you, not even Save the Children or immigration’.
“Then they started hitting us by punching, kicking, and they [kept] threatening [us] and swearing.”
One of the boys was left unconscious during the attack.
Two of the boys escaped to a nearby beach where they hid behind a rock and used a mobile phone to call Save the Children staff, who act as carers for the child refugees without parents.
Nauru police were alerted, and Save the Children workers were able to find all four boys, who were taken to hospital.
