As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Dumped Brett Mason planned to challenge George Brandis in government Senate stoush
Brett Mason told colleagues he was planning to challenge George Brandis for the No. 1 spot on the LNP's Senate ticket in the weeks leading up to his demotion from the frontbench, sparking speculation he may be offered an overseas posting to protect the Attorney-General's position.
Senator Mason was, until Sunday, the Parliamentary Secretary to Foreign Minister Julie Bishop. When contacted about his plans to challenge his fellow Queenslander he refused to confirm or deny the reports.

FEDERAL MPs have spent millions of dollars of taxpayers' money on business class airfares, study tours, chauffeur driven cars and decking out their offices with the latest and greatest technologies and swank office fitouts.
Topping the list was former Prime Minster Kevin Rudd who managed to rack up more than $500,000 in less than three months.
July 2013 SMH
Entitlements paid between July and December last year averaged $228,229 per federal politician - which includes travel, car costs, office facility expenses, office fit-outs, office administrative costs, telecommunications bills and family travel.
Then prime minister Julia Gillard's entitlements totalled $647,718
Almost puts paid to her past title of Poor Me, but at least she claimed more than Abbott, even whilst the Circus was producing a run of deficits.

mustn't go after the big end of town, so much easier to go after the disabled and the aged.
Scott Morrison needs to realise the Disability Support Pension actually saves money and lives
Scott Morrison, the new Minister for Social Security says that "getting as many Australians as are able off welfare and into work will be one of my core goals."
Given both his track record of harsh penalties for those seeking asylum, and the Abbott government's existing welfare review, the new year for many people with disabilities is looking grim.
Despite the tabloid rhetoric about rorters and bludgers, the rate of people getting the Disability Support Pension (DSP) is falling, with more than half the applications refused. The eligibility criteria have been repeatedly tightened, and the work threshold is now only 15 hours a week. The DSP also recognises that having a disability costs money - for example, if local public transport is not accessible, a taxi may be the only transport alternative. This financial cost has nothing to do with whether a person is on the DSP or another safety net payment; it's because having a disability is expensive.

Lacking any substance or specific detail, Abbott raises the spectre of terrorism right before Christmas.
really? you expect specific details?
Chatter may suggest 'something more is coming'
Professor Greg Barton from the Global Terrorism Research Centre said the Prime Minister's comments meant it "almost feels like we're going from three out of four to 3.5 out of four" on the terrorism alert scale.
"We can't go to four unless an attack is underway and so that's very unlikely," he told 7:30.
"The chatter, the feedback they're getting is that something more is coming down the pipe.
"We've got to brace ourselves and perhaps someone out there may know of something or speak up when they hear [Mr Abbott] say this."
Professor Barton said the chatter may not be just within Australia, and that Mr Abbott's comments may be aimed at Australians travelling overseas for the holiday season.
"We've had two attacks in France over the weekend - one or both appear to be linked to Islamic State - and so maybe there's something afoot globally."

Australian Federal Police deputy commissioner for national security Michael Phelan said there had been a group of people, linked to Islamic State, involved in planning an attack on state and federal institutions around Sydney.
The AFP said it had seized a "significant amount of material" including documents with enough detail to "facilitate a terror attack" during overnight raids.
A rifle, a shortened shotgun and a double-barrelled shotgun were also seized.
Two men aged 20 and 21 were arrested.
The 20-year-old was arrested at his house in Regent's Park on Tuesday afternoon.
The 21-year-old Marsfield man was arrested as part of continuing investigations into the alleged planning of a terrorist attack in Australia.
He had allegedly breached a control order.
Both men will be appearing in Parramatta court on Wednesday morning.
"There was enough (material) there that gave concern to us that something was being planned.
"They were charged in relation to having a document that was designed to clearly facilitate an attack.
"I want to assure everybody that this is part of an ongoing activist that's commenced over a period of time.'
"There is certainly nothing that indicated a specific timeframe or activity.''
So far 11 people have been arrested as part of the Operation Appleby counter terrorism blitz by the AFP and New South Wales police.
Deputy Commissioner Phelan said there were no specific threats of a Christmas Day attack.
But he said he was urging Australians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the national security hotline.
The National Security Hotline number is 1800 1234 00.
