As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Your ranting and raving at Liberal is all very well, Paints, and I concede you make some very good points. However, you've shown no real solution or alternative.
Get rid of Abbott and his Liberal Government? Fine. It will happen.
Put Labor back into power? No Way!
We'd simply get more of the same once the dust settles after the election.
And don't forget, seeing Mr Abbott won't have been able to address the budget deficit because of Labor blocking his attempts, Labor going to inherit it back with 3yrs worth of interest.
What makes you think they're not going to sell whatever assets are left after both Labor and Liberal governments have successively done just that since WW2?
When there's nothing left, who do you think is going to pay the pension and the welfare bill?
Be back later.

Well said Icy. I also concede some points and do think Abbott could do better but I'd take him over 24/7 Rudd, Gillard
or Labor at the moment, until they get a really effective leader in and rid of the factions / Greens.
Comm Bank should have been sold when it was as no need for the Gov't to own a Commercial Bank.
Paint - BTW, It was also privatised by Labor !
Qantas - well after Labor buggered the airline industry workers (Pilots strike), what else to do ?
Telstra - well that was set up by Labor for sale, even though they lost power and the first tranche went through under Howard.
Who sells off the family silver ??????

I agree icy but the idiots in power atm-and this is what this thread is about, are absolute rubbish and need to go.
Put myself and a few others on here in C & S in control.....give us a few weeks and we will sort the mess out
It's not rocket science.

Certain circumstances have worked against them in some instances.
Re the Senate, good in some aspects but too often we end up where a minority control power
far beyond the level of votes they gained. Some of the Indies are OK, they try not to hinder but
don't give blanket support.

Thank goodness for the independents ......here's to many, many more of them IMO.

I thought you wanted Australia to move forward and be progressive.
That is NOT going to get you that.

Laugh away aps. In the not too distant future I see the Bi-Partisan system collapsing completely and yes some sort of Independent presence .
If Abbott and mob are an example of the best regards progress and forward thinking then I'm ready for the nunnery.
