As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

the reality is the exact opposite of what the right is spinning

The funny thing that not too many people realise about the Senate blocking the Abbott government's policy measures to hike taxes and fees and to reduce government spending is that it is positive for the economy.
You don't have to be John Maynard Keynes to understand that measures that would take $28 billion out of the hands of the private sector and put into the Treasury coffers would dampen economic growth โ it is called fiscal tightening.
If, per chance, the Senate passed these measures, the economy would be weaker as fees were paid ands services cut. So few people, Joe Hockey included, seem to get this point.
The Senate road block on budget measures is actually one positive for the economy is an otherwise gloomy space.

Why do you keep using Geelong as the shining example of how good this govt is?
Do you know what the level of unemployment is?
How is the youth employment rates?
Is it higher than Wollongong or Port Macquarie?
If you want to discuss youth unemployment and Geelong start a thread about it.
This thread is about the current govt, not individual posters, or how wonderful Geelong or Geelong's Mayor may or may not be.

Geelong is a fairly big regional centre, it's the last major town before hitting the Great Ocean Road and lots of beach/coastal tourist towns that do very well over the summer months. ( and so does Geelong seasonally)
It may be totally different to where you are AM, I don't know.
my suburb also has always had a strategic development plan and I would call it airy fairy, not much of it has ever eventuated
a lot of the time, things look pretty good on paper, but converting them into reality is a different story
