As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Tony Abbott Requests Press Not Report On Anything He Does.
Following the success of his Iraq trip, Prime Minister Tony Abbott has announced that he would prefer it if the press no longer reported on anything he was doing.
“It’s just really convenient,” explained the Prime Minister in what he claimed would be his final press conference. “You see, what’s been happening lately is that I do something and then the press reports on it and everyone gets really mad at me. It just seems like if there was no reporting then everything would be much easier.
“Look at Operation Sovereign Borders. We refused to let the press in on what was happening there and the hideous things we were able to get away with there, ah, I would laugh if I could ever stop screaming.”
He went on to deny that the lack of independent press coverage removed transparency and accountability.
“The world is confusing enough already. Every day we get these conflicting reports of what I say has happened and what the people who were there watching say has happened. Who can keep up? It’s just easier for me to tell you what’s going on and for you to shut up and believe me."
"Asking questions is for game show hosts and The Riddler.”
Abbott admitted he believed he performed much better without having the press monitoring every single one of his decisions.
“It’s just a lot of pressure,” said Mr. Abbott. “Having all those people watching you makes it hard to work. It’s like when you’re trying to use a urinal in a public restroom. Actually, now that I think about it, a lot of what I’m doing is like **bleep** up a wall.”
The Prime Minister refused to answer any follow up questions instead choosing to tut at the report and repeatedly say “see, you’re doing it again.”
“I want to be Schrodinger’s Prime Minister. If no one can see what I’m doing maybe I’m doing a great job. Maybe I’m killing cats. Who knows?
“Anyway, I best get back to being Prime Minister. If you want to find out how diplomatic relations are going with other nations or anything of the sort I’ll be doing aReddit AMA in a few weeks. Just to give you a taste of some of the questions I’ll be answering, I would rather fight the horse sized duck then the duck sized horses and yes we’re at war with Indonesia now. Sorry about that.”Poor Tony -all those years of Murdoch backing him and he can't take a little of the heat he and Murdoch dished out to those in opposition- banning the press is pathetic!

I think managing the economy was what the Napthine Govt used in Vic during their election campaign along with the east/west link
it didn't work for him here, I wonder if Qld will see it differently

You will never be happy until they are living in Australia.
Do you disagree with that ?
I am happy, already.
We have people in Australia that dress up in fancy dress outfits for whatever purpose.. Regardless of how funny they might look in their costume they are still people.
It takes a special kind of arrogant rissole to call a person a thing because they don't like the way they wore a costume. There was no suggestion that the person wanted to live in Australia, or even if they already do live in Australia.

...The exclusion of independent Australian journalists and camera crew meant that the only vision and on-the-record statements came from paid members of the prime minister’s office.
Labor criticised the decision to exclude Australian media.
“This government, from the moment they came in, have adopted a culture of secrecy and I don’t think it’s helpful, I don’t think it’s smart, I don’t think it’s fair to the Australian people,” the acting opposition leader, Tony Burke, said.
Prime ministers John Howard, Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard have in the past taken pool crews and journalists when they visited Australian troops in the Middle East.
The prime minister’s media office provided news outlets with transcripts of the Iraqi visit, including a corrected account of the joint press conference, in which Abbott accidentally referred to Abadi as president instead of prime minister.[snigger]
