As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

The company awarded a $20 million contract to operate an Ebola treatment centre on behalf of Australia donated $30,000 to the Liberal Party last financial year.

Political party financial disclosure documents published by the Australian Electoral Commission this week show Aspen Medical gave $30,000 to the federal division of the Liberal Party in 2013-14. 

The return for the ACT Liberal Party also shows the party received $15,000 from Aspen, but says this money was "incorrectly paid" into the party's account, and was returned to the company in June last year.

Labor received $1500 from Aspen over the same period.

In November, Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced his government would pay Aspen $20 million to staff and operate an Ebola treatment facility in Sierra Leone on behalf of Australia.

The issue has come back on the radar with strong rumours that Nihal Gupta is about to be made chairman of SBS. Gupta is a longtime supporter of the Liberal Party, a fund-raiser and a friend of the former Premier Barry O'Farrell.

He is managing director of Digital Electronics Corporation Australia and chairman of the listed company JCurve Solutions, but hardly a household name, except perhaps in the O'Farrell household. His lack of broadcasting experience or involvement in dealing with public sector organisations has already raised queries about his future role at SBS.

Mr Gupta has already won a number of appointments from Barry O'Farrell's NSW government, including a coveted seat on the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust, a $27,500-a-year part-time position with the NSW Judicial Commission, the body overseeing judges and magistrates, and chairmanship of the NSW Multicultural Business Advisory Panel.

Actually Gupta was appointed last year (Oct.)

This is not my opinion. It has been reported in media as coming from MP's/backbenchers. They are the ones saying they feel they have no option if they have complaints... 'cause he is Peta C's husband.

Following a chain of command, people with complaints should start first with PC's husband.

Entsch complains there is a conflict of interest in having the married couple as the Prime Minister’s chief of staff and the federal Liberal Party director. He is not alone but he is one of the few to state so publicly.

“.I raised concerns years ago. I think it is a complete conflict of interest having federal ­Liberal Party director (Brian Loughnane) and the chief of staff.

“If you have a problem with the PMO it’s difficult to raise it with the federal secretariat. If you have a problem with the secretariat it’s difficult to raise it with the PMO.”

What would it be like if the nation did a Bishop or Turnbull instead?

Despite holding portfolios such as education and ageing in the Howard government, Bishop is not seen to be as strong on domestic issues, particularly economic ones. She had an unimpressive time of it in the shadow treasury portfolio under Turnbull's leadership. 

In terms of the conservative wing of the conservatives, Bishop also runs the risk of being viewed as too "small l" liberal. She is a republican, after all. 

As someone who has been so close to the senior leadership of the Abbott years, it is also reasonable to ask, how different would she be from the current leader? 

2. Malcom Turnbull

Turnbull is very popular among Labor voters. On his own side, he struggles. 

People still remember his disastrous leadership of the Liberal Party from 2008-09. Colleagues have not forgotten that he did not treat them very nicely and some swear they will not go back there again. 

If you're a big fan of same-sex marriage and ditching the Queen and climate action, just remember that Turnbull would still be constrained by what his party will allow him to do.

Tony Abbott enters this leadership crisis in a stronger position than those who would replace him for one simple reason: he has a plan to hold his job and they don't have a plan to snatch it. Not yet, anyway....
