Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Yes, fail.

Abbott (after resisting pressure from his colleagues for 5 years) finally backflipped on his Paid Parental leave scheme.

Now announced a 'Family Package' except they haven't even got one... and he expects to not get rolled next week!

A few old pollies reading stories in childcare centres this week isn't go to cut it!

Are Rudd and Gillard still in office?

It's 2015 now. In late 2013 there was an election in which Gillard did not stand for re-election. Rudd resigned a short time later.

This thread is about the current government.   If you have columns or newspapers lining your halls you could perhaps go back a few piles and read about the last federal election to refresh your memory.

Glee

We will ALWAYS be comparing this Govt o the previous one.

No on GAF what the title is, WE WILL be posting comparisons to Rudd / Gillard.

Whether you like it or not. Got it, good Smiley LOL

More fun reporting on the expected dumping (what a triumphant moment that would be) of Tony Abbott... fresh stories every hour or less!

Quick, grab a baby

Is the government reforming childcare or something?

EVERYONE is at a kidcare centre today.

Bill Shorten in Sydney was at the Little Dolphins centre first thing this morning.

Joe Hockey is also in Sydney and is due at Jenny's Kindergarten round about now.

And hey, Julie Bishop and Christopher "inexact science" Pyne have just rocked up to greet some little tackers in Adelaide.

Canberra Times

Abbott has done his childcare centre stint this week.

The we have had the PM and Hockey, out furiously demonstrating how much they are just governing the country.

And helpfully pointing out that hey, the carbon tax is gone.

Both of them are a joke.

Sure, they do, in fairyland

The Project Wickenby cross-agency task force plays a role in the Australian Government's fight against tax evasion, avoidance and crime.

Updated 18 Dec 2014

Project Wickenby: getting results

Project Wickenby’s success is demonstrated by over $2 billion in liabilities raised, as well as increased tax collections from improved compliance behaviour following intervention by the Wickenby task force.

This is further supported by ongoing investigations and prosecutions, resulting in substantial sentences and strong deterrent messages in the sentencing judgments.

Recent results show the net is closing on promoters of – and participants in – tax schemes that involve the abusive use of secrecy jurisdictions.

Prosecutions and court judgments

So far, 76 individuals have been charged with serious offences under Project Wickenby. Of these, 19 resulted from ACC investigations, 54 from investigations by the AFP, and 3 from investigations by ASIC.

To date, there have been 44 criminal convictions, with the courts emphasising the following when making their judgments:

  • the amount of the loss to the public purse
  • that the conduct was calculated criminal conduct
  • the offending was planned
  • the offences were caused by greed and not need
  • the need for general and personal deterrence.

In addition to the 44 convictions, a further 69 people have been prosecuted for summary offences – which can attract penalties of imprisonment of less than 12 months – with the majority involving outstanding lodgments.

Criminal investigations

The Australian Crime Commission (ACC), Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) are all undertaking criminal investigations as part of Project Wickenby.

Criminal investigations into illegal offshore schemes involving false deductions and concealed income and **gains are often complex and can require a lot of time and resources. A single investigation may involve a number of promoters and many intermediaries and participants.

**Very unwise of the Abbott Govt to slash thousands of staff in the ATO, if it is serious about catching tax avoiders.
