As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

"How much have these morons collected as payment for being lying, time wasting, damaging to Australia incompetents now?
Anyone have any total $ figures as to the total cost?"
Would that figure be along the lines of your 6=6000, or "About 1 million temporary/457 visa/485s "or in this graph you posted which excludes benefits and monetary values?
I note that government benefits are excluded, as are actual monetary values !!!!!!!!!
Now for a realistic picture wth $ figures unaltered from the same souce without the "ACOSS calculations"
Seeing as you have "quoted" The Australian here is something from them in the past:
"No, the rich don’t pay a ‘fair share’ of tax. They pay all of it"
Put simply, only the top fifth of households paid any tax. The bottom 6.9 million households, while often incurring income tax liabilities and regularly paying GST, received more in cash welfare and services than they paid in.
I think that is a bit tough, just look at the ABS figures/graph, it indicates that only over about 60% do not pay any net tax.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott says he expects the vote on whether to spill his party's leadership will be done through a secret ballot next Tuesday.
In a joint media conference held by Mr Abbott and Liberal Party deputy leader Julie Bishop in Townsville, Mr Abbott said that he was "expecting this spill motion to fail".
The Liberal Party's rules do not define whether MPs should cast their votes in secret or by raising their hands or voicing their opinions.
A secret ballot could be more dangerous for Mr Abbott but he said that is what he expected.
"The standard procedure is a secret ballot, in the end it's a matter for the party room, but that's the standard procedure... that's my anticipation," he said.
However he said regardless of how the the spill vote was conducted, he expected the motion to be defeated.

It would appear that the ABC is a little "confused"
".........The Liberal Party's rules do not define whether MPs should cast their votes in secret or by raising their hands or voicing their opinions..........."
ABC
Pressure is mounting on Tony Abbott to allow his party colleagues a secret ballot on whether he should be ousted as Prime Minister.
A motion to spill the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister's positions will be debated in the Liberal party room meeting on Tuesday.
Whether a vote takes place – and whether it is a secret ballot or a show of hands – is up to Mr Abbott, the Liberal Party leader.
Herald Sun
For the first time, he also confirmed he would allow MPs a secret ballot, which could allow ministers to break ranks and vote for a spill.
7News
Whether Mr Abbott will allow a secret ballot, insist on a show of hands, or decline to allow a vote at all, is not clear.
The Guardian:
Tony Abbott’s immediate fate is to some extent in his own hands. As chair of the Liberal party room meeting he will decide whether the all-important “spill” motion is a secret ballot or a show of hands
He could be cutting his own throat if he allows a secret ballot.
Me quoting the Guardian, what next, pink snippets from a self styled "Independent" source, or a BIG comment from a Tehran based source?

Monman
They hate to be reminded of that fact, welfare versus input.
I think they need reminding every so often that it is give and take all round
and they take more than give.

it would be the fair thing to do imo. MP's are saying they don't want to go on his "bad" list ( though Istress that wasn't the word they used). I would expect TA to take the cowardly option, which is a show of hands
how did Labor manage their Gillard/Rudd ballot?? Does anyone know??

Is abbott still trying to vote down the vote??
loooking back at past history, John Gorton was a decent man, he held the deciding vote on his position and stood down like a true gentleman would

V3000: "I think they need reminding every so often that it is give and take all round

I am probably going to receive a , even a couple for posting the ABS graph above ( it is from the days of the Circus) and in the style of the Board Officer Barbrady, I might receive a "Okay move along, move along people, there's nothing to see here!".
I will be somewhat like Basil V3000 : " don't mention the Circus I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it"
I doubt it though!

Julie Bishop declines PM's request not to attend fundraiser with Malcolm Turnbull
Deputy Liberal leader Julie Bishop has reportedly declined Prime Minister Tony Abbott's request not to attend a fundraiser event with Communications Minister, Malcolm Turnbull in Sydney on Sunday amid prospects of a leadership spill on Tuesday.
On Friday evening, after a spill motion to oust the Prime Minister was moved, Channel Nine's political editor Laurie Oakes reported the Prime Minister's office "was so concerned about the optics of them appearing together looking like a unity ticket", it asked Ms Bishop to cancel her attendance at the fundraiser with Mr Turnbull but she refused.
some very odd things going on really. This isn't the first time Julie Bishop has done something that the PM's office has refused. I have never seen her smile as much as she has been over the past past week
Yes, very odd.
The PM had no right to demand she not go to that function.
Her eyes have been showing a sort of mysterious twinkling the last couple of days.
Either way whether Abbott goes or not.. she will still be Deputy Leader I think.. so she has nothing to lose.
