Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Bad cop Credlin wields power at Abbott's command

Credlin has been so central to Abbott's personal rise, and Abbott is so indebted to her, that the prime minister refuses to do without her.
In the prelude to Monday's spill motion in the Liberal Party room, the Financial Review's Phillip Coorey reported that Abbott's supporters were urging him to dump Credlin to save himself. One unnamed MP reportedly said: "If Abbott offers up Peta Credlin, he will buy himself some very, very valuable time."

Abbott refused to yield to the pressure, but he did seek to assuage some of the criticism by granting ministers some more freedoms.
Last week ministers were told they could now choose their own junior staff without reference to the Credlin vetting committee known as the "star chamber".

Ministers could now travel overseas with two aides instead of one. And so on.

And last week, for the first time, the cabinet met without Credlin in the room.
But even as MPs walked from the party room after Monday's vote, they were muttering darkly about her. Fairfax Media's Latika Bourke reports that "several MPs expressed disappointment that the Prime Minister did not make any concessions regarding his controversial chief of staff Peta Credlin, whom many MPs want removed.
"'It doesn't mean jack if his office doesn't change," said one MP immediately after the meeting. '[Credlin] has to go,' said another."

It's not Peta Credlin's fault Abbott is a bad Pm, a bad communicator, someone who treats people poorly, is a liar, who has no redeeming features.   Why should she be punished for doing her job?

He's the one who should go.... but please let's keep him.  He provides the best comic relief on a daily basis.  Who needs loo roll with jokes on the sheets when we've got the Abbott gaffe?

That is why there is no way he would let her go. He wouldn't have a clue what to do.  If he goes, she goes too... so then everyone would be happy.Cat Very Happy

I can't believe MP's (for recent example, Sussan Ley) weren't allowed to choose their own staff ( backflipped on that order now).

Last week ministers were told they could now choose their own junior staff without reference to the Credlin vetting committee known as the "star chamber".

No wonder they are getting dissatisfied with Abbott/Credlin.

Perhaps there is some truth to the rumours that they were sending plants to apply for jobs in the Gillard/Rudd govt years.  They fear everyone else is underhanded and cheats because that's what they do.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-02-10/submarine-kevin-andrews-takes-backwards-step/6082254

Defence Minister Kevin Andrews has taken a backward step from a South Australian Liberal senator's comments on Sunday that there would be an open tender process to build a new fleet of Australian submarines.

Mr Andrews refused to rule in or out comments by senator Sean Edwards that there would be an open tender process and preferred to reiterate it as a "competitive evaluation process", a term the Defence Force said it had never heard before.

It would enable ASC, which built Australia's soon-to-be-replaced Collins class submarines, to bid for the contr

act to build 12 submarines against international players such as Japan, which is widely tipped to be the Government's favoured option.

Mr Andrews further fuelled speculation about ASC's ability to pitch for the contract by saying the corporation could "have a role" in the process.

Then he walked out on questions and left the lowly South Aussie senator stranded with conflicting information.

I'm not sure whether the SA senator truly believes he's won some sort of concession or not

The Daily Telegraph  Smiley  Over sensationalised tripe as usual.

at least six

believed to have broken

In other words they don't know nothing , just guessing from unverified information.

The Daily Telegraph has learned that by Sunday night the Prime Minister had received 70 pledges of support from MPs promising to vote against a party room motion to spill his leadership.

A minister close to the PM said he was shocked when the count confirmed only 61 votes.

“Nine people lied to him,” he said.Woman LOL

While most of his executive stuck with him, The Daily Telegraph was given the names of at least six ministers who are believed to have broken with duties of loyalty to the leader in the secret ballot.

One was caught at the weekend making calls on behalf of communications minister Malcolm Turnbull.

Credlin factor again

Sackable offence to brief against Liberal MPs, Tony Abbott warns

TONY Abbott has sent another signal about looming changes to his office by assuring his colleagues it will be a “sackable offence” if his staff brief against Liberal MPs, fuelling talk about leaks against ministers.

One Liberal backbencher, Don Randall, asked the Prime Minister in a private meeting of Coalition MPs on Tuesday morning what should be done with staffers who briefed the media against ministers or MPs.

While the question did not name Mr Abbott’s chief of staff, Peta Credlin, it came as Liberal MPs privately urge the Prime Minister to reassign her or scale back her role.

Liberal MPs told The Australian that Ms Credlin’s job would have to change to act on Mr Abbott’s pledge to lift his performance and improve the government’s fortunes.

The question to Mr Abbott may have been based on talk among Liberals about times when Ms Credlin has been said to criticise ministers to journalists or arrange leaks that catch ministers by surprise.

“For good or bad she has become the issue,” one Liberal MP told The Australian.

A party room spokesman said the Prime Minister’s words were: “That (briefing against colleagues) is a sacking offence”.

Many in the Coalition partyroom meeting took that as another indication that Ms Credlin’s role would change and she would not have the prominence she had last year when she and Mr Abbott were jointly blamed for running a “command and control” office.

Dec 2014

CHANGES are expected within Tony Abbott’s office after a blow- up at a crisis meeting in the Prime Minister’s office last week to find out how the confidential agreement over Arthur Sinodinos’s resignation became public.

During the meeting, there was a dispute between Mr Abbott’s chief of staff, Peta Credlin, and his senior media officer, Jane McMillan.

Ms McMillan, submitted in writing her position as far as the leaking of the Sinodinos resignation was concerned. and denied being responsible.

On Friday, Senator Sinodinos, who stepped aside as assistant treasurer six months ago while the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption investigated his role at Australian Water Holdings, expressed public disappointment that his agreement with Mr Abbott was leaked to the media on Thursday night.

Last night, senior ministers said it was appalling that the agreement, which triggered the weekend’s shuffle, had leaked.

Senior government sources said some changes were expected within the Prime Minister’s office soon.
