As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

no, she wasn't.
Triggs: “…I’ve been there three times, you cannot get into any of the sections without going through armed guards, etc etc”
Well said.
Trigg was trying to whip up a storm over nothing.
Biased.
Needs to go and find another job.

The Human Rights Commission is not going to be closed down or defunded. As if!
Gillian Triggs does a good job, and will remain until her term is up. Abbott will by long gone by then.

Next year if not before Boris. seems as if his own party is trying to get rid of him, but they have to do it behind his back

Just past the first anniversary of his death.
It would be six months before anyone was charged with Mr Barati's murder. PNG police charged two local guards working for detention camp operator G4S with his murder in August last year, and continue to hunt other suspects.

where did you see these photos?
can you post them here?
Search them up, they shouldn't be that hard to find.
I don't know if they're in the report or not.
there aren't any photos of armed personnel
at the detention centre.
I think this might be the pic Glee is referring to. These are not detention centre guards. They are border security personnell.
That might be one of the images.
And they're armed. The point was there were armed personnel and the minister and his PS offsider attacked Triggs on the basis that she said armed guards instead of armed personnel. Not good enough was their attempt to attack and shame her when all they had to do was explain who is armed and who isn't. They knew exactly what she meant and chose to go the sexist attack dogs instead of answering the question properly.
She was clear that they were not inside the centres so it was doubly clear which personnel were armed. While she was describing the conditions and talking about the report they were playing semantics and attacking the messenger.
No the point is there are no armed guards that you have to go through when you move from on section to another in the detention centre.
Armed personnell seen in the pic are not detention centre guards. They are border patrol personnell and appear to be assistiing detainees in leaving a boat.
I believe Ms Triggs may have tried to embellish the truth in stating she saw armed guards during her visits to the detention centre.

No, maybe not, but it can be ignored.
Just like the UN HCR has been totally sidelined.

"They don't need arms"
Er, I think you'll find it is part of the uniform for Customs personnel working offshore, Border Protection.
Same as Sailors and Soldiers.

WELL SAID.
To fit an Agenda. As though she couldn't just ask a question. No, wouldn't suit.
