As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.![]()
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Mr Turnbull was asked about Professor Triggs: "This debate about Gillian Triggs, it misses the main point. The main point is the children."

The Gov't gets that, that's why they have lowered the numbers from 2000 children in detention to a few hundred.
But of course Trigg spent most of the time focusing on things she could bash Abbott over, with barely a sentance
of credit to the Gov't and little or no criticism of the practices under Labor's 6 years.

Mr Abbott and Treasurer Joe Hockey have popped up in Kogarah, Sydney, where they are talking about home ownership.
Mr Abbott releases a discussion paper which proposes a $5000 application fee for foreigners wanting to buy residential property worth less than $1 million.
"The idea is not to deter foriegn ownership," Mr Abbott says. "Yes, foreign ownership is good but it's got to be the right sort of foreign ownership....and it can't disadvantage Australian home owners."
Mr Abbott is asked how this will help first home buyers.
Treasurer Joe Hockey jumps in to help: **"If a local is bidding against a foreigner for a new property then the foreigner has to pay $5,000 more. For some people that is a signifcant amount, for others it isn't."
Mr Abbott is asked about negative gearing. That would help with property prices, he is prompted.
"Obviously they do have an impact on the housing market but we are certainly not proposing any change," Mr Abbott says.
In other words he has no idea!!!
**"If a local is bidding against a foreigner for a new property then the foreigner has to pay $5,000 more. For some people that is a signifcant amount, for others it isn't."
Only on new properties
Considering the median house price in Sydney is $850 000, then $5000 is small change. Especially to buyers from UK and other countries where their currency is worth more than ours and to overseas buyers who are millionaires.
Most migrants want to live in Sydney - where they can get work, not in some tin pot town in a rural area where houses are cheaper.
Useless proposal.

According to you, Abbott & Brandis![]()
Malcolm T doesn't think so. Nor do the majority of Australians (voters)
Abbott's OVERBLOWN attack on Triggs another of his blunders.. so much for good government!

Which is not was came out of Senate estimates yesterday.

That was another blatant abbott lie.

I disagree with this Fraser quote. Abbott's bully boy tendancies have increased since his leadership was challenged.

Rubbish. Please read the report and watch the senate hearing before any futher slander of Triggs.
These buffoons are over stepping the mark. Macdonald acted like a misogynist bore when chairing the hearing yesterday and he admitted to attacking Triggs about the report without having read a word of it.

They certainly have. It shows he hasn't listened to any of his MP's, backbenchers and public opinion ever. If that is all he has got to offer as as Leader/PM he needs to go sooner rather than later.
From the article I quoted a page or 2 ago.
The Abbott doctrine: crash through or crash
Mr Abbott, conscious he is surviving from poll to poll, has embarked on a strategy of crash or crash through, telling those close to him his only option is to keep governing and hope he can re-engage with voters. !!!
