As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Liberal Party faces three-way tussle if leadership spill called

JULIE Bishop and Malcolm Turnbull will both stand for the Liberal leadership in the event of a spill motion, setting the scene for a Melbourne Cup’s field of candidates that could even include Trade Minister Andrew Robb.

The Foreign Minister’s supporters have indicated the mood of the party room is clear: Liberal MPs want a choice and don’t want a “fait accompli’’ where powerbrokers form a ticket in the event that Tony Abbott resigns or faces a second spill motion.

That is likely to spark a three way contest if Tony Abbott contests any second leadership spill, or even the prospect of a four-candidate race if Mr Robb also throws his hat in the ring.

Tony Abbott should beware a Malcolm Turnbull, Scott Morrison affair

...But worrying about who is dining with whom has long been a Canberra parlour game. With good reason. These days, it’s Turnbull’s dinners with rising star Scott Morrison that should worry the Prime Minister. For two blokes who fell out after the 2009 leadership spill, the rupture has clearly healed. Indeed, they opted to dine together not once, but twice in three days.

They’re dating again. And it’s serious. On Wednesday night it was Morks at Canberra’s Kingston Foreshore — outside table no less.

There’s some interesting history between Morrison and Turnbull.

Turnbull backed Morrison in his messy 2007 preselection battle.

Just months after he was elected to Parliament, Morrison returned the favour, busily working the phones for Turnbull’s first 2007 leadership tilt against Brendan Nelson. Turnbull lost. But when he secured the leadership in 2008, he appointed Morrison to his first role on the frontbench.

When the Liberal Party came for Turnbull in 2009, it was Morrison and his deputy Julie Bishop who had the sorry task of telling Turnbull the grim news that his MPs were abandoning ship.

At the time, Morrison gave every indication of being frustrated with Turnbull but still hugely affectionate about him in a grim sort of way. They have history. But Turnbull lashed out in rage and grief at his last backers. He accused them of not voting for him.

In leaked emails, Bishop complained that she was “saddened by these false allegations of disloyalty, given that I voted for Malcolm throughout the ballot process”.

Turnbull wrote that he could not believe she planned to serve as Abbott’s deputy given “what you were saying to us last night in our apartment ... your scathing attacks on him and his character”.

“Too many people know what you think of him, and what he thinks of you,’’ Turnbull wrote.

Bishop remains the wildcard in the Liberal leadership dispute. If she was to run and a three-candidate contest of Turnbull v Abbott v Bishop emerged, there’s every chance that she would have more hard baseline numbers than Turnbull. That could throw up a surprise outcome.

Four years ago, tensions flared again between Morrison and Turnbull over claims he had urged shadow cabinet to capitalise on the electorate’s growing concerns about “Muslim immigration”.

Morrison angrily denied the report. Turnbull’s critics blamed him for the leak. But intriguingly, this pattern of blaming Turnbull for simply everything sowed the seeds of rapprochement between the two men.

After the shadow cabinet leak, Turnbull and Morrison began to rebuild their relationship.

If Turnbull is elected prime minister in coming weeks, Scott Morrison will be his treasurer.

Miranda Devine has been pushing Morrison for PM instead of Turnbull .What are they so worried about? I've seen a fair bit of chatter about About Turnbull as leader and Morrison as treasurer. Hope he's got an economics degree, and Joe should go and get one

But you would think as staunch LNP voters that they wouldn't care who led the party as long as it won elections. I don't understand their mind set.... But I do know they're currently baking a loser
