Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Where did big red lettering come from watta? I don't know, not from me. But it does make a post stand out, so maybe it's a good thing to use

Can't mention absentees, so can't give an answer to that one.

Apart from that we have the choice of font size, font colours etc in the reply box. The kudo choice under a post.

Can't see the need for others to comment negativley on the use of those, actually.

r Abbott, also the federal Minister for Women, trumpeted the event as a triumph for feminism.

"This is just how wonderful this broad church that I lead is … obviously they've just broken down the last barrier and they've made the men-only club admit women," he said in a spirited response during question time.

"Admit women! Isn't that fantastic? At last, this bastion of chauvinism has admitted women and they've done it on International Women's Day because of the Liberal National Party.

"Good on the Liberal National Party, smashing the glass ceiling yet again. I say congratulations and thank God that bastion of old-fashioned chauvinism has finally collapsed like the walls of Jericho at the trumpet cry of the Liberal National Party."

Mr Abbott may have overstated the significance of the lunch, as its speakers remained ineligible for Tatts membership.

Queensland Minister for Women Shannon Fentiman appeared surprised at the move.

"Seriously? You can't make this stuff up," she said.

"It shows how out-of-touch the LNP are and their excuse of organising the event at short notice just doesn't stack up, because International Women's Day is held on the eighth of March every year.

"They would have had plenty of warning it was coming."

Do you think the food poisoning scare at the Brisbane Conference Centre, had anything to do with the last-minute change of venue?

I believe the more adult woman, currently Speaker in Queensland, Ms Fiona Simpson, responded very well with the Luncheon venue having been moved at short notice.  She is the Key Speak at the luncheon.

"I'm less troubled by openly 'male only' clubs or openly 'women only' gyms than I am by areas of society that have a veneer of equality but which hide structural impediments or unconscious bias that block women from opportunities," she said.

And notice the person "reporting" the story quoted in the Brisbane Times?  A person trying to tear apart women's evolving role, the ultimate role of equality.

Was there a last minute change of venue DEB? Appeared to be a late booking to start with, with not many venues available then.. hence the Men's club for a IWD luncheon.

The venue was chosen simply on the basis of availability, price and flexibility in a CBD location.

"LNP Women appreciate the efforts of Tattersall's Club in accommodating their function at short notice."

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

I think it was most likely already booked out for the day. Who is the person doing that, the journalist? No idea, I've never heard of them

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

If holding this lunch in this club causes this much fuss, I wonder what would have been said if the club had said no

to holding the luncheon ?

Probably nothing !

Obviously!  Any function centre can say No.. whether they are booked out or not. They don't have to give reasons.

Besides that there is no issue with the club &  the luncheon provided, that is totally irrelevant.
