As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

yes Christine Milne and the Greens called for an inquiry into corporate tax evasion as everyone knows, Why should she provide circulation figures for the Australian?? that's not up to her. she asked questions of them as was her right to do so, she did not "hijack" the inquiry she called for 🙂
one of those companies is newscorp (though they would prefer it to be just google and netflex under investigation)
Most of newscorps papers here would be running at a loss, his profits here come from foxtel and realestate.com

"yes Christine Milne and the Greens called for an inquiry into corporate tax evasion as everyone knows"
"everyone"? oh gosh I am not an "everyone", are these the everyone(s): ?
Facts (sorry)
The inquiry is: Senate Inquiry into Corporate Tax Avoidance, not: tax evasion. There is a distinct difference.
Tax evasion is the illegal evasion of taxes by individuals, corporations and trusts.
Tax avoidance is the legal use of tax laws to reduce one's tax burden

A company might be think they are using tax avoidance measures but they are actually engaging in tax evasion.
JOE HOCKEY, TREASURER (Sep. 2014): There is a global warning message to multinationals: you have to pay tax where you earn the profits. And wherever you are located, the developed world has had enough. The developed world has had enough.
We are not going to cop this sort of minimisation and, in certain circumstances, avoidance and even evasion. We're not going to cop that anymore.

SAM DASTYARI: Well, I think the entire point of this is that you have to start tackling what has been this ongoing issue of tax avoidance and tax minimisation. You made that very good point: there is a difference between tax minimisation and tax evasion. Tax evasion is illegal; tax minimisation is the strategies companies use to minimise what they have to pay - but it's a very grey line. It's a very grey line.

"A company might be think they are using tax avoidance measures but they are actually engaging in tax evasion."
That is somewhat nonsensical, but as I have a REAL interest in economics an example or two would suffice.
However, the point of my post was that D9275 posted: "yes Christine Milne and the Greens called for an inquiry into corporate tax evasion as everyone knows"" which was incorrect, as the inquiry is: Senate Inquiry into Corporate Tax Avoidance.
Apart from my amazement at a quote from Hockey which has no relevance to my point in mentioning the correct Senate inquiry title, within the REAL WORLD do you actually believe that any of the companies being questioned by the Senate would engage in tax evasion?

"And apart from the hand-shaking insult (I seriously hope President Putin washes his hands and sterilizes them after touching the grubby paw of Abbott), we have another example of sheer crass stupidity, namely the statement that "Russia needs to fully cooperate in the investigation into the MH17 atrocity".
"When Australia isn't busy crawling around the legs of its colonial master, England or trying to crawl up the anatomy of London's master, Washington, participating in their wars to pick up a few crumbs thrown Canberra's way, its politicians are busy kowtowing to Europe and the USA making stupid and unfounded remarks about Russia."

An Iranian asylum-seeker is recovering after a 40-day hunger strike, Australian Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said Tuesday, but insisted the near-fatal protest would not influence the government's immigration policy.
Saeed Hassanloo, 25, is the second Iranian asylum-seeker to take on an extended hunger strike in recent months after a 33-year-old ended a similar protest in January -- both over Canberra's treatment of their claims for resettlement in Australia.

Given the chance, some would.
