Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

I agree M1C,  2°C is in my opinion 'hot air'.

However,  I am partial to a bottle or two of  "red", also a good Caribbean rum. The  dancin girls I will not comment upon lest I incur the ire of G58.

I might even join my son in a dry martini, if the seal level  does not interfere!

International Monetary Fund lowers growth outlook for Australia

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has highlighted the damaging effect the iron ore slump is having on Australia, as the Treasurer seeks a discussion with the Chinese Finance Minister on the matter.

In its latest world outlook, the IMF forecasts Australia will grow by 2.8 per cent this year, which is slightly down on its previous prediction in October of 2.9 per cent.

The slump in iron ore is largely to blame, dragging metals prices down 15 per cent since September last year and the IMF warns the pain is not over yet.

"Average annual metal prices are expected to decline 17 per cent in 2015 ... and then fall slightly in 2016," the report forecast

Tony Abbott scraps promised company tax cut for big business

The Federal Government has formally revealed it will not go ahead with a promised company tax cut for big businesses.

But nor will larger companies be forced to pay a levy that was designed to help fund the Prime Minister's dumped paid parental leave scheme.

Tony Abbott will reveal the changes in a speech to a business lunch in Sydney today.

Dr Karl Kruszelnicki backs away from 'flawed', 'political' Intergenerational Report

The man promoting the Government's Intergenerational Report, ABC science commentator Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, has backed away from the document, describing it as "flawed".

Dr Kruszelnicki appears in a number of advertisements promoting the report on television and radio, in newspapers and on social media, but he is now criticising the report's reduced focus on climate change.

"I did it on the grounds that it would be not for any political party but for the Government of Australia as a non-political, bipartisan, independent report," he told the ABC's AM program.

He said he was only able to read parts of the report before he agreed to the ads as the rest was under embargo.

Despite assurances otherwise, Dr Kruszelnicki now believes he put his name and reputation to a report that is highly political and which largely ignores the impact of climate change

Dr Kruszelnicki blames himself for trusting the Government. He turned to Aesop's Fables to explain himself

However, Dr Kruszelnicki said he had not asked for the ad campaign to stop

Defence Minister Kevin Andrews fails to name ISIS leader

DEFENCE Minister Kevin Andrews has failed to remember the name of the leader of the Islamic State, just hours after committing an extra 330 Australian troops to a two-year training mission to help defeat the terrorist group.

In an excruciating exchange with ABC 7.30 host Leigh Sales, Mr Andrews was asked to name the leader of ISIS.

Mr Andrews initially appeared to attempt to evade the question by saying he wasn’t going to go into operational matters”.

Chris Bowen struggles to name tax-free threshold

"Federal opposition treasurer Chris Bowen has been accused of not knowing a key area of his portfolio after he was unable to identify Australia's tax-free threshold during a live television interview on Tuesday night.

Repeatedly pressed by talkback host Alan Jones to outline Australia's tax levels, Mr Bowen was unable to identify the $18,200 figure as Australia's tax-free threshold."

Who IS IS the leader?

I must admit to being unaware of the very important moniker of the ISIS leader, but I do know the the tax-free threshold figure. kudos blue up.jpg
