Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Actually the term 'twitter" has been  in use long before the digital age, and as a verb is prominent herein

Clearly, in this thread twitter refers to the electronic platform used today.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/federal-budget-2015-joe-hockey-crackdown-on-pa...

Mr Hockey also refuted suggestions he had taken a back seat in the budget's design, and the pre-release sales task, to the Social Services Minister, Scott Morrison.

But in a sign that he had largely surrendered control even of the release of crucial budget information, Mr Hockey then refused to discuss aspects of the new $3.5 billion childcare package even though its details had been splashed all over the front pages of a friendly newspaper chain - presumably with the authorisation of Mr Morrison and Mr Abbott.

Asked what the centrepiece childcare package would cost taxpayers, Mr Hockey said "I will leave that to the Prime Minister and the minister responsible today".

"It has been released," responded Oakes incredulously.

"It was announced to one newspaper chain overnight. The rest of us had the announcement today. So surely you can talk about it?"

Oakes then asked if it was worth $3.5 billion as reported.

"It is vitally important," ventured Mr Hockey. "I can see you are upset".

Oakes replied" "It is funny really, you cannot talk about your own budget."

However Mr Hockey - who has taken an unusually low profile over recent months and is refusing to grant the customary pre-budget print media interviews - was more expansive on other aspects of the budget such as the parental leave crackdown on double-dipping.

Scott Morrison pushes for treasurer’s job

Scott Morrison has had a discussion with Tony Abbott about being given the treasury portfolio if his components of the budget measures are well received and if he is able to get them through the Senate.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Just google scott morrison and the site comes up first.

A pathway for a new federal treasurer has been mapped out.

Scott Morrison has had a discussion with Tony Abbott about being given the treasury portfolio if his components of the budget measures are well received and if he is able to get them through the Senate.

Diary understands the Prime Minister and Mr Morrison had the discussion last week, with Mr Morrison claiming he would be more successful as treasurer than Joe Hockey who colleagues say has no cut-through. While it was a private discussion, Mr Morrison has, understandably, told several of his closest political confidants and allies about the conversation, which took place after a meeting of cabinet’s expenditure review committee (ERC), and he claimed Mr Abbott was agreeable.

A spokesman for Mr Abbott denied the discussion took place and Mr Morrison’s office did not respond to calls.

However, the Social Services Minister today rejected Diary’s report as “complete, absolute rubbish”.

“I don’t know what people are on in this town with all this nonsense going on, but this is total and utter nonsense,” he told Sky News.

“If people want to scribble around about gossip and other nonsense, well maybe they should be writing for gossip magazines and not pretending to be interested in serious public affairs.”

Behind the scenes, there has been a power struggle between Mr Hockey and Mr Morrison in the ERC, with Mr Morrison taking a lead role. Mr Hockey’s loss of control in the ERC has been twofold. First, he was overruled on policies he wanted pursued and second, Mr Morrison was successful in having his proposal to change the eligibility of the part-pension pass through the ERC. Diary understands Mr Hockey was resisting this reform.

Communicating the government’s policies and narrative — assuming there is one — to the public has been a major area of weakness for Mr Abbott and Mr Hockey. Last year, Mr Hockey faced accusations of being in retreat, of giving up the sales job and of being missing in action when media reaction to his first budget was hostile.

Mr Abbott has staunchly defended Mr Hockey but has had to rely on Mr Morrison over the past week to take a greater role in selling key measures ahead of tomorrow’s budget.

Rupert Murdoch's News Corp is ATO's top tax risk

The Australian Taxation Office has only one company in its highest risk category for tax avoidance – Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation.

Sure.

Hockey needs to go, anyone who signed off on the dud Budget last year shouldn't have been given a second chance. He is the top man, responsibility lies with him.
