Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Mathias Cormann refuses to put figure on public service job cuts in budget

Eight government departments to join health and education in receiving ‘functional reviews’, says finance minister ahead of Tuesday’s federal budget

The finance minister, Mathias Cormann, has refused to be drawn on how many jobs would be lost by further cuts to the public service, expected to be announced in Tuesday’s federal budget.

News Ltd reports that slashing public sector departments and selling off of public assets will net the federal government more than $4bn.

Eight departments will join the departments of health and education in undertaking a so-called “functional review” to identify areas where jobs can be cut and savings can be found.

Cormann would not put a figure on how many jobs would go as a result of the reviews, saying only that their purpose was to make the public sector more efficient.

Apparently deficits are okay when supporting jobs & growth. Funny the Libs didn't see it like that in the GFC

Nup, that comment applies specifically to Joe Hockey in May 2015.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Abbott was still out spruiking his "signature" PPL plan

There would have been a lot of voters who voted for the current Govt because of that promised policy.

Major back-flip.

It's more than a backflip. It's a backflop.

it was his main election policy or 'signature policy" as he called. Personally I always thought it was over the top. Now it seems  he wants to do the exact opposite. Not sure yet what they're doing to family tax benefits part A and part B.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

from same link above

So the government is running hard on the dodginess line here. Why should women get access to two schemes? Why should taxpayers cough up if employers are also offering a payment for baby leave?

Because this was the intent of Labor's existing scheme, where the government only pays for 18 weeks at the minimum wage.

As Sydney University professor and PPL expert Marian Baird has explained, the original scheme was designed to let women "complement" their employer scheme with the government one.

Hopefully, they would get up to 26 weeks of leave, which is recommended by experts so women can bond their their babies and breast-feed.

So it is not fraud for women to try and access more than 18 weeks of leave to be with their babies.

It's not unfair if their employers chip in for something that is a "work entitlement". Or for taxpayers to help if it also benefits the economy (let alone society).

Which makes you think why is he PM!  Seriously, you can't spruik something as the best idea/policy ever and 6 months later can it and remain credible.

Even less effort than a C&P article sans comments, bring them on.

I will raise you a Harvey Shorten , somewhere. (Circus side show perhaps?):

I note you were quite happy to reply to a quote from an unreliable source (news.net.scot run by volunteers!) in another thread, not one comment about the source. Careful, your bias is showing.

hmmm, double standards.
