As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Meanwhile .. job losses...
The Illawarraโs monthly jobless figures have hit their highest point in almost three years, as more job cuts loom at businesses around the region
.
The latest Australian Bureau of Statistics labour force estimates, released this week, puts the unployment rate for the Illawarra at 9.4 per cent โ a massive change from 4.5 per cent unemployment last April.
The statewide unemployment rate for April is 5.8 per cent, according to the ABS.
The last time the Illawarra jobless rate was this high was in September 2012, when it was estimated at 9.6 per cent.
The rate has been steadily rising since the start of this year and means more than 14,200 people are looking for work in
the region.
Unfortunately for the regionโs workers in a number of fields, there are likely to be more job losses in the months ahead.
Mining and engineering companies including Sandvik and Industrial Galvinizers have either closed down or shed jobs in recent months, while the regionโs coal miners have also been hit hard.

Was she ever really 'gone' apart from a holiday to Fiji ?
After months in the background, Credlin is back in the box seat
After a self-imposed exile from the public spotlight, Peta Credlin is back and her appearance is a sign she is not going anywhere.
Tony Abbottโs chief of staff โ who attracted bitter criticism from within the government last year, faced calls for her sacking for being too controlling of the Prime Minister and went into virtual hiding โ quietly resumed her place in the adviserโs box behind Abbott in parliament on Tuesday night.
But while Credlin is staying in the Prime Ministerโs office and working as chief of staff, there are changes to her operations that will remain โ such as not attending cabinet and devolving some duties she had performed in the first year of the Abbott government.
There are further changes likely to come to the office when John Howardโs former adviser, Tony Nutt, who ran the NSW Liberal Party through its crisis and election, is expected to come to Canberra.
..It was the first time since ยญDecember, when Credlin was blamed for bad relations ยญbetween Abbott and his cabinet colleagues, that she had come to the adviserโs box, signalling an end to her public exile.
In December when the Prime Ministerโs media office was reorganised, it was decided Credlin would not attend cabinet meetings and she tried to avoid appearing in television or newspaper photographs with the Prime Minister.
While continuing to do her work as chief of staff, Credlin cut back on travel with Abbott and when she did travel she ensured she was well in the background. During Abbottโs pre-Anzac Day tour of Gallipoli, Credlin held well back in the entourage, away from cameras and the chance of incidental publicity.
..Tuesday nightโs parliamentary appearance by Credlin was a culmination of almost six months of working with the Prime Minister and the Expenditure Review Committee on the budget.

Itโs the apology budget โ weโre very sorry for last year
...The key task of this yearโs budget was to rebuild confidence and get businesses investing again after last yearโs disastrous budget.
...The small business tax cut is virtually pointless, a $1 billion a year handout to family-owned shops and sole tradies that will achieve nothing. Thatโs because any investment or new employment that a small business is likely to make in response to the tax cut will be designed to get its turnover above $2 million a year, otherwise whatโs the point, at which level the tax rate goes back to 30 per cent.
Likewise the accelerated depreciation: it applies to assets of less than $20,000, and thatโs not even going to buy a locally made car. Maybe an espresso coffee machine for a cafe, but only a cheap one.

How important is small business to Australia? (Conversation Feb 2013,)
It is probably worth reminding ourselves just how important small business is to Australiaโs economy. Small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) โ which are those employing fewer than 200 people โ comprise around 99% of all businesses in Australia. They also employ around 65% of the workforce or about 2.8 million people.

Small business contributed around 33 per cent o in 2012-13.
Small businesses employed around 4.5 million people in 2012-13, approximately 43 per cent of private sector employment.

Australian small businesses provide jobs for 4ยฝ million people and produce over $330 billion of Australiaโs economic output.
At the heart of the Jobs and Small Business package is $5 billion in tax relief for small businesses with annual turnover below $2 million.
