Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

I've just been reading all of the tweets and retweets about Bronwyn Bishop and Peter Slipper.  It's quite astounding that she hasn't been kicked to the curb already.  This happened back in November last year, not to mention the $90,000 trip to Europe.

Maybe Abbott and Pyne should lead her out the back door.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Yes, I've been reading it too. there is a lot of anger out there at the way Slipper was handled in comparison to Bishop just paying back the 5k with a 25% charge and saying she did nothing wrong. Apparently she earns $341 K per year, so it won't hurt her.

Shame she's not paying back the 88k for the European trip as well. She should be and she should resign

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

BB has now been referred to the Australian Federal Police. I knew this wasn't going to die down. I've seen posts elsewhere saying it would just blow over and would be forgotten in a few days but the outrage has been palpable. Too much 'leaners' and 'double dipping' accusations thrown at the voters for people not to react. The voters have been bullied for nearly 2 years and worn down by the constant talk of debt and deficit disaster so people are maintaining their rage.

It will be interesting to see what comes out of this as we haven't heard a word from the PM.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

A PRE-ELECTION flight to Afghanistan by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, his wife Therese Rein and news crews cost taxpayers more than $800,000.

Mr Rudd's entourage spent just four hours on the ground at Tarin Kowt after travelling for 20 hours from Australia.

The passenger list included several TV crews, a News Corp Australia pool photographer and an AAP reporter to record the event.

That meant a passenger manifest of about 20 people for the 300-seat plane.

A second C-130J back-up plane also made the journey.

Labor was critical of former prime minister John Howard's regular use of RAAF VIP Special Purpose jets to fly him to work in Canberra from his home in Sydney, but Mr Rudd has broken all records for prime ministerial VIP plane travel.

Having said that, I'm very disappointed in Ms Bishop's unwise choice of transport,

Andrew Nikolic calls on Helen Polley to follow Bronwyn Bishop example and repay charter flights cost

Mr Nikolic would not be drawn on whether it was necessary or appropriate for the Speaker to repay the money but used the decision to reapply pressure on Tasmanian Labor senator Helen Polley to repay more than $20,000 worth of charter flights.

Between July 2011 and mid-2013, Senator Polley racked up a bill of $23,000 on eight return flights f...

Mr Nikolic claimed the cost had not been adequately explained.

"At the time of Senator Polley's flights she had no portfolio responsibilities.

"I challenge you to find any other politician in Tasmania that's used that extent of charter travel."

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

I suppose if you dig deep you can try and justify the speakers spending, they all do it however what's really upset people is that this current govt is the one that told us we have to be lifters not leaners,,,. and that we have to tighten our belts.... practising what they preach and setting a good example aren't they... NOT

sorry Icy... no, it's not justified by what other poitcians have done in the past and then there's what they did to  Slipper over $900, that's a bit fresh in people's minds too
