As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.![]()
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

"pathetic isn't it"
It certainly is, definitive comments that are easily demonstrated as being without foundation, again.
But a lol or two is worth a chuckle
Oh gosh regression: just a link sans comment . .......But but we have had this NYT story earlier so is this an echo, or virtually a repeat of 14292 because it is so yummy
interesting article from The New York Times on our asylum seeker policies
I point out again that the NYT has overlooked that as a result of: "Prime Minister Tony Abbott has overseen a ruthlessly effective effort to stop boats packed with migrants" there is unlikely to be a repeat of this scene below.

The NYT also has "conveniently " overlooked the current ALP policy apropos refugee boat arrivals ??????
"The combination of offshore processing and regional resettlement together with the policy of turning back boats has stopped the flow of vessels arriving on our shores. None could have succeeded in isolation but together they have ended a human tragedy.
To ensure that people smugglers are denied the opportunity to offer any incentive to vulnerable people to board unsafe boats to make the dangerous journey to Australia by sea. Provided it can be done so safely, a future Labor Government will retain the option of turning boats around."

"your link is different to mine though"
Exactly the same text though, word-for-word, with the SMH just a repeat of the NYT editorial !
Gosh, perhaps not reading a tag-team member's link, that deserves a,,,,,,
I thought I would check and see if there was any local comments apropos the TWICE linked USA article and discovered that the Age (not the DT) had covered it with Mark Kenny , he's OK I guess? : READ

Well that was a thorough check, I must say. One article, which by pure coincidence happened to be pro Abbott. In the interests of balance, here are a couple more local commentators:

It seems our leaders’ flagrant disregard for international law and human rights has not gone unnoticed by the rest of the world after all, despite their best efforts.

Now for some reality:
BBC Poll Reveals 77% Want Immigration Cut
So we have the NYT telling us how to conduct our immigration policy, and now we are being "urged" to tell the UK how to manage their's. A global village indeed !.
