Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

I don't even understand WHY they are being held in detention centres why aren't they immediately being put on a plane back to NZ if they have been proven to committ a crime

the reason they are being held in

detention centres AFTER the order of

deportation was signed - is because they

have the right to appeal.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

"A FEDERAL government blitz on foreign-born criminals has led to the deportation of 270 offenders - among them sex predators and cold-blooded murderers"

"Hundreds of criminals face deportation to New Zealand...........  including killers, sex offenders, drug dealers and outlaw bikies"

One of those statements is dated Aug 2015,  and the other Sep 2011 !   (guess which)

regurgitating,  or a slow news day/week ?

BSD: "Including one woman, 9 month sentence for theft, who has lived here since she was three years old - she's now forty.

"Ms Russell is also mother to a four-year-old boy, who lives with his grandmother on the Sunshine Coast. She has reportedly previously served time for 'similar offences'."

In Russell's case several prior convictions dating back as far as 2008 were taken into account, along with a six-month suspended sentence.

In 2011, the United Nations Human Rights Committee condemned Australia's practice of deporting non-citizens as a violation of international law. This was in relation to the 2006 deportation of Stefan Nystrom, who'd arrived in the country three weeks after being born and was deported to Sweden at the age of 33  Nystrom had a checkered past, having served numerous terms in Australian prisons.

A slow political week I guess, not a whiff of any juicy C&Ps !

yep, many things are taken into consideration

before ordering deportation.

DIMA will look at the following factors before signing a deportation order.

  • The nature of your offence
  • The circumstances of your offence
  • The comments of the judge/magistrate at your trial
  • The nature of the penalty
  • The extent of rehabilitation (what progress you have made in addressing your behaviour)
  • Whether or not you are likely to offend again
  • Your previous criminal record
  • The safety of the Australian community
  • Your family and other community commitments in Australia

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

the whole process from these detention centres seems to be really slow, not just for those seeking asylum but for New Zealanders as well
