As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Not many people would even bother arguing with a C&P, true, but when they have no original comments appended ?
Apropos CC debt
a) people are silly...... not very bright, if they end up paying interest, otherwise use the convenience and accrue points
b) they don't have the cash so they use credit......not very bright, if they start paying interest, and then end up with even less cash, otherwise use the convenience and accrue points
c) Joe hockey advised everyone to spend, so they are....No No, M1C in post 14751 said that : Thank heavens they don't save, otherwise half of the country's businesses would shut down. You gotta keep spending if you want a 24/7 economy."
That comment earned him a from you?

well, myo is right. if everyone has gone out to spend, spend, spend as Joe Hockey. suggested.. it would be supporting the (rather slow) economy .. if everything is open 24/7 they can spend more on their credit cards
so household savings are low, credit card spending is high. ( but all working people have super and 1 in 3 of the 67% home owners have an investment property
and you said
I find these figures below (sourced elsewhere) particularly shocking in that people still do not plan ahead:
(keeping in mind that they do have super)
.... what is your theory as according to you, mine is 'codswallop' so is myo's

" well, myo is right.........................." myo" is wrong"
Hockey did not say ...................... "spend, spend, spend" in his speech.
"Household savings are low". .... After the GFC they rose, as a %, considerably... (read earlier posts)
"credit card spending is high"... high, but card debt accruing interest on each card has fallen by $108 since February 2014.

No comment in the Jakarta Post but I found this:
Irsh Echo May 29, 2015
In 2014, Treasurer Joe Hockey said that “the days of borrow and spend must come to an end”.
Also The Conversation May 13, 2014 :
"the days of borrow and spend must come to an end" .
However, it would appear the earlier utterances have been ignored (overlooked) in favour of the alleged nonsensical comment "spend spend spend" from Hockey (and here), when in fact the comment (research, sorry) was:
"Treasurer Joe Hockey has urged Australian households and businesses to borrow and invest"
For those wishing for facts (sorry) listen to Hockey's speech HERE or for those preferring the older method go here:
http://www.smh.com.au/business/federal-budget/interest-rate-cut-treasurer-joe-hockey-urges-australia...
There is a distinct difference between spending and investing.
We are not a manufacturing nation, I have just purchased a car made OS..... how many here have "Made in China" on many of their possessions or are looking at a monitor from OS ? ..... SPENDING
However over 95% of my investment portfolio is in Australian equities..... INVESTMENT.
Hockey said INVEST in his speech, not "spend"
"You gotta keep spending if you want a 24/7 economy." That is economic codswallop.

Hockey did not say ...................... "spend, spend, spend" in his speech.
who said he did say it in his buget speech?? no-one

"Hockey did not say ...................... "spend, spend, spend" in his speech.

He didn't in the pre budget speech either (that is PRE budget) that I actually mentioned e.g. :
"For those wishing for facts (sorry) listen to Hockey's speech HERE or for those preferring the older method go here:
http://www.smh.com.au/business/federal-budget/interest-rate-cut-treasurer-joe-hockey-urges-australia... "
Oh gosh, I see that you also like the same URL D9275, because you used it above in the list of unread ones.
Hockey didn't say "spend, spend, spend" in that speech either, but the SMH attached the headline as they also do not know the difference between spend and invest, or are they are also biased. NO, really.
Gosh 2 Kudos, how many if the link/comments were actually correct ?

Gosh 5 URLs studied ?, as they range from pre-budget to post-budget and mostly indicate that Hockey urges people to borrow and invest.

Mark Kenny headline in SMH but the mixed video clips of Hockey make no mention of "spend"
May 5, 2015 SMH
http://www.smh.com.au/business/federal-budget/interest-rate-cut-treasurer-joe-hockey-urges-australia...
Pre-budget speech video, headlined by James Massola in SMH, but in the video clip Hockey 3 times mentions "invest", not spend.
The SMH also can not differentiate between spend and invest or is that just dumb media bias?
May 5 2015 Canberra Times No video

No video, CT excerpts taken from Hockey's speech (the headline is the CT's) :-
Treasurer Joe Hockey has urged Australian households and businesses to borrow and invest
Mr Hockey said the business community should "go out and invest and create more jobs. Go out and invest and create more jobs".
"invest" differs from "spend"I know, I also read and research any URL that I (and others) post , rather than just selecting a "yummy" one for a C&P.
PS
Where is a video of Hockey saying "spend, spend, spend ?
on 14-10-2015 01:07 AM
M1C: "I don't know what Hockey said re "spend","
Probably because he mostly eschewed "spend" ( "spend" was media hype) as he preferred the term "invest".
Allow me to assist you though, as there are a few pages easily found that will guide you, try HERE . Comments are along the lines of : "treasurer Joe Hockey has urged Australian households and businesses to borrow and invest"
