Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

http://www.smh.com.au/technology/technology-news/malcolms-mess-how-the-coalitions-nbn-came-unstuck-2...

A long ,detailed article; here are a few highlights:

Telecommunications analyst Paul Budde believes Turnbull ignored good advice on the state of the networks for political reasons, and "only surrounded himself with friends who all had the same sort of view on the NBN".

"It's turning out to be a bit of a shoddy, delayed, 'sticky tape and rubber band and gaffer tape' solution." (senior telco executive)

Speaking on ABC TV's 7.30 this week, Turnbull dismissed the leaks to The Australian on copper remediation costs as "simply not true", pointing to figures in the NBN's current corporate plan, which show Labor's NBN would cost nearly $30 billion more and take six to eight years longer to build.

.......

The figures Turnbull quoted detail the prospective costs of returning to a fibre-to-the-premise model; not what it would have cost to stick with fibre to begin with.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

It looks as if Sloppy Joe will soon be able to afford even better cigars and more doughnuts:

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/former-treasurer-joe-hockey-gets-to-double-dip-with-ambass...

Article is paywalled, unfortunately.

IT’S official. Former Treasurer Joe Hockey is a double dipper and will be able to top up his $360,000 salary as our new US ambassador with an estimated $90,000-a-year pension.

Mr Hockey, who famously rallied against “double-dipping’’ mums who wanted government funded maternity leave as well as their employer funded leave, will be eligible to double dip himself.

The buck passing in this next bit is very "Yes Minister":

"The Department of Finance is responsible for arrangements on parliamentary pensions. Former parliamentarians who take up an ‘office of profit’ are responsible for making these arrangements with Finance. DFAT is not involved in those arrangements.’’ (DFAT spokesman Ray Marcelo)

A Finance spokesman said that Mr Hockey’s arrangements were not a matter for the department and the query should be handled by DFAT.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

The age of entitlement is over obviously 🙂
The NBN? It'll probably need a major upgrade in another 10 or so years and my guess is Sparkles Turnbull will be a shareholder in the company that gets the multi billion dollar contract.

It's a disgrace that Cros.  The man was a failure as treasurer  and is now laughing all the way to the bank.  I'm sure I read recently that our fed politicians have also just given themselves a pay rise

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-12-14/prohibition-on-wind-farm-investment-never-existed-hunt-says/70...

Federal Environment Minister Greg Hunt has denied the Turnbull Government has reversed a ban on public investment in wind farms.

Mr Hunt recently gave the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) a new mandate allowing it to invest in wind projects.

Under the new mandate, signed by Mr Hunt and Finance Minister Mathias Cormann on December 3, the $10 billion fund will be allowed to invest in wind projects, as long as they incorporate "emerging and innovative" methods.

It comes approximately five months after the Abbott government gave the corporation a directive to stop investing in wind farms.

Mr Hunt told ABC that there had been "perfect consistency" in policy, stating that the July document was a draft mandate.

He said that he never called for a prohibition on wind investment, but instead more focus on emerging technologies.

The CEFC has announced $67 million in financing for Australia's third-largest wind farm at Ararat in western Victoria, a move welcomed by Victorian Environment Minister Lisa Neville.

"It's been a very rocky 18 months for the industry and investment which has caused a lot of losses of jobs across Australia so this is a positive step forward," Ms Neville said.

huh??
