Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

this stinking govt full of wealthy pollies has completely re written the discription of a disability so they can spend more money on their rich mates!

a pox on the lot of them

and to have the front to actually put in writing 'losing a leg isnt bad enough to get a pension'

what an insult, well i guess all those athletes at the disabled games missing arms or legs....gotta give ya medals back and go compete in the regular olympics now.

David, Take a good look at the athletes in the Paralympics....many of them could run rings round the average able bodied person just living an everyday life and providing for their family.   Many of them compete against able bodied athletes in everyday competition and acquit themselves very well.

You really need to read the article properly before sounding off.   The man in question is receiving an income while he is disabled, just not a disability pension.  If you read further you will see that he can apply for the pension in the future if he is still so disabled after allowing time for current recuperation and the future fitting of a prosthesis and learning to use it.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

oh come on, your defending the undefendable now?

hes had his leg chewed off by a shark, so today he is DISABLED!

maybe in 2 years he will be a little less disabled, who friggin knows? certainly not any **bleep** from centrelink.

you really rekon this would stand up to malcolms 'pub test'

you rekon if you walked into a pub, any pub front bar, and asked if losing a leg from a shark attack would qualify you for disabilty pension any one would scratch their heads and say ...

struth mate, hes still got one leg, must be a job where hopping is a must.

no no no, when anyone says losing your leg for whatever reason doesnt qulify as a disabilty pension, thats crossed a line IMO.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Oh David, you sound like a petulent child and it does your argument no favours.

Losing a leg does not necessarily throw a person on the scrap heap of life.

He is receiving an income while his condition stabilises and he learns to use a prosthesis.   This will be looked at again in the future when his degree of disability is established and his suitablity for retraining is known.

There are members of our military still serving who have lost limbs.  Certainly not out there in Afganistan or on any other front line, but doing a very necessary job behind a desk.  Probably a job that they are uniquely qualified for as they already know the conditions that combat troups endure.

I know a dog handler who has lost a leg and an arm but he is still one of the best dog trainers that I know and eminently well able to earn a very good living.

My daughter has competed in equestrian events against a girl with a prosthetic leg and a missing hand, as well as a blind girl.....she lost to both of the "disabled" contestants.

Actually all three apply.

Where did I say it makes everything OK?

What I have pointed out is that you are exaggerating the circumstances....the man is not denied an income but he does have to wait the required amount of time to see if he qualifies for a disability pension.  In the meantime he is obviously getting an income and support to recuperate, receive a prosthesis and learn to use it.

You are the first one to scream "bludger" but you don't like it when Centrelink applies the rules to all equally...you cannot have it both ways.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

For once I agree with you David.

The only thing that may be against that is the charges he faces in Turkey.  He may be out of prison in no time at all.  At least if he comes back here he will hopefully rot in jail.

I was watching ACA and was astounded when someone was advocating stopping kids being radicalised and running off overseas by getting them involved in sport.  If they are that close to radicalisation I say let 'em go and never let them back into the country.

What will they decide to get up to if they stay here.

Dear George, on one hand you want australian laws changed to allow free speach, but on the other hand you want to ban someone from entering australia to speak at an even because you disagree with his views.

very interesting stance to take.

Says everything about this govt, policy on the run. for how many years have we been subjected to "debt trucks" and endless talk of the country "drowning in debt" under missmanagment by labor?

then suddenly we start getting this mob anouncing spending like its lolly water with little or no scruitiny.

i notice though for all the flip flopping their still not improving in the polls.

remember the polls? the ones malcolm used as a reason to roll his former leader? the ones he now says dont matter? LOL
