Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

" there is nothing wrong with the Jakarta post, it's very similar to Al Jazeera."

Gosh really, an Indonesian newspaper with a daily circulation of 40,000 is very similar to a Qatar based global TV/online  network which according to Al Jazeera :

We broadcast to more than 220 million households in more than 100 countries.

Right ......... very similar !    They both have "J"  as an initial in their title.

I make a point of watching  Al Jazeera on early morning TV as I appreciate their international news coverage, however I am still not tempted by Jakarta Post when they print unconfirmed stories with this qualification:

"We don't know for sure what happened, but that's what they say"

I do though understand the need for tasty grist, regardless of authenticity or source when it is of a particular political flavour.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-04-12/gst-freeze-call-senior-federal-mps/6386506

Two federal West Australian MPs are calling for the distribution of GST to be frozen at the current rate while states agree on a new system.

The Commonwealth Grants Commission recommended Western Australia's GST share fall to less than 30 cents in the dollar, wiping out billions of dollars in revenue.

This comes on the back of a major reduction in revenue for the state from iron ore royalties.

In an opinion piece published in Fairfax Media today, Finance Minister and WA Senator Mathias Cormann said WA's GST return should be frozen at 37.6 per cent while a "fair" distribution system is developed.

He described the current system as "unfair" and "unsustainable".

Senator Cormann told Sky News a freeze would save WA up to $600 million and would be a better outcome for the federation.

it has been kind of quiet since just before Easter Am, abbott must've been gagged. He seems to be choosing his words a bit more carefully and his wife has even done a women's magazine interview .   Trying to change his image as the next fed. election draws closer I suspect.

the budget will be interesting

Does this bakery in The Phillipines know you are using their business logo? An original work that either the designer or business holds copyright for.

Everyone carps on about Big business, it's going to take a lot more than just Aust Gov't to fix the laws because

we can make any law we want but if other countries don't fix them as well, it won't have a huge effect.

I can think of skunks that need to be targeted to pay back what they owe instead of taking the "easy option"

and avoiding responsibilities, regardless of the rules.

you're a good researcher Am . Can't imagine why the person would be using a logo from the Phillipines. I wonder what the  newspapers are like over there ?
