Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

http://www.theage.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/no-surplus-in-sight-deloitte-says-budget-bi...

The Australian budget is facing deficits $38 billion worse than forecast and on present settings will never return to surplus, an authoritative new analysis has found.

BIS Shrapnel says the industry will lose a further 20,000 jobs during the next three years on top of the 40,000 direct losses since the investment peak.

Deloitte Access expects the economy to be 2.5 per cent smaller than forecast by Treasury by 2018-19, a loss of $48 billion

this is very bad news, it seems the govt. were incorrect in their May budget forecasts

Julie Bishop reportedly had an empty RAAF jet fly from Canberra to Perth to pick up her and her partner after a charity dinner.

The foreign minister and her partner David Panton were the only passengers on the $30,000 taxpayer-funded flight to Canberra on October 18, The Daily Telegraph reports.

FOREIGN Minister Julie Bishop had an empty government VIP jet fly from Canberra to Perth to pick up her and her boyfriend from a charity dinner.

Ms Bishop and partner David Panton were the only passengers on the taxpayer-funded RAAF Challenger Jet on an overnight flight to Canberra on October 18.

The deputy Liberal leader had represented Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull at a private dinner for WA Telethon donors that evening but had completed her official public commitments a day earlier by announcing $1.5 million in government funding and playing a starring role in the WA Telethon.

Ms Bishop said she chose to take the VIP jet because the dinner finished too late to catch a commercial flight and still be back in Canberra for 7am ministerial meetings to begin the sitting week.

Yet MPs from both sides of politics suggested Ms Bishop should have cancelled her dinner if the meetings could not be moved instead of charging taxpayers at least $30,000 for the flight.

The Daily Telegraph has obtained documents that show the nine-seater jet flew across the nation empty on October 17. The jet then left Perth bound for Canberra, with Ms Bishop and Mr Panton aboard, at 11pm the next evening, before arriving in Canberra at 5.50am on October 19.

It came in the wake of another Bishop, Bronwyn Bishop, putting expenses under the spotlight amid revelations in July she had used taxpayer funds to take a helicopter 80km from Melbourne to Geelong for a party fundraiser.

Labor MP Tony Burke had also been slammed for using taxpayer funds to travel to a pop concert and also using the VIP plane for “ghost flights”.

There is no suggestion Ms Bishop was not on official government business or the travel was outside the guidelines. Ms Bishop is known for knocking back first class upgrades during her overseas travel. But colleagues and opposition politicians have questioned the need for the VIP flight on this occasion.

A statement from her office said there were no commercial flights that would have allowed her to meet her Canberra commitments. “The Foreign Minister arrived in Perth from AUSMIN on Saturday, October 17. She had pre-arranged meeting and functions scheduled on Saturday and Sunday and early morning meetings in Canberra on Monday,” a statement said.

“There were no commercial flight options available that would enable her to meet her ministerial commitments.

“In accordance with longstanding practice of WA ministers, on both sides of politics, the Foreign Minister returned from Perth to Canberra on the VIP.”

Former WA-based Labor foreign minister Stephen Smith once racked up five VIP flights in one month in 2013.

5 in 1 month?  Smiley Surprised

a little more news on the foreign minister today too

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-12-01/abbott-accuses-bishop-of-lying-about-leadership-spill/6991926

Former prime minister Tony Abbott has accused Foreign Minister Julie Bishop of lying in a recent comment about the lead-up to February's failed leadership spill.

It has been revealed Ms Bishop was with Malcolm Turnbull in February when he reportedly phoned Scott Morrison and offered to make him treasurer in a future Turnbull government.

Mr Morrison has not denied the phone call took place but has denied he was offered the job.

Yesterday, Ms Bishop said she told Mr Abbott about the conversation and Mr Turnbull's plans.

"Of course, of course," Ms Bishop told Channel Nine.

But Mr Abbott said that claim was incorrect
