Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

ref. am3:    What 'bias' is Prof Disney (cool surname) supposed to have?

.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................

“If you think about it the press council has four basic principles, number one is the freedom of the press and the council has gone missing in recent times on some very important issues.”....

A spokesman for the council would not say which two News Corp publications had complained about bias.........

so if the publications have not been named then how the ba-jeepers are we supposed to know on which issues etc.....reckon Disney is older than those who can say what they like-he is old enough to DO what helikes IMO and he is NOT going to be bullied or take carp from anybody....so he has just said 'No'. Good on himSmiley LOL

well paints, in that article it says that the press council have received 2 complaints relating to newscorp papers and newscorp don't want Disney involved in making a decision on it ( though it doesn't say what the complaints are)

This one about Boston bombing photo being altered.? The Daily tele editor apologised for that. Not sure if complaints were laid with APC. Probably were.

Daily Telegraph sorry for using Boston bombing image to mock Mike Carlton

Editor of Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, a News Corp paper, says he was unaware image of bombing victim was being used in spread about resignation of Fairfax Media columnist

The other one was The Australian - a chef recommending eating kangaroo meat. Aust Kangaroo Society put in the complaint.

So, Newscorp publications don't like getting sanctioned??

After reading the following about a Daily Telegraph article they deserve them

Adjudication 1614: Third Party Matter 130256/The Daily Telegraph (August 2014)

The Press Council has considered whether its Standards of Practice were breached by material published on The Daily Telegraph's website on 3 February 2014 relating to the death of the actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman.

The material was headed “Kids grieve for junkie actor dad” and included a photograph of his children and an assertion about what their response would be to the circumstances in which Mr Hoffman died.

The Council has concluded that the combined impact of the references to the children and their alleged feelings, a photograph of them and the use of the term “junkie”, was highly unfair and offensive, especially as the material was published only a few hours after Mr Hoffman’s death.

The Council also concluded that serious breaches of its Standards of Practice occurred in this case even though the offending aspects were removed from the website within an hour. The Council noted it is entirely foreseeable that, as occurred in this instance, material which has been removed from a website may nevertheless be seen widely before its removal, and remain permanently available from other internet sources.
