Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

'Secretive, expensive, unnecessary': John Howard defence force chief slams Tony Abbott's asylum seeker policy

The defence force chief responsible for border protection under the Howard government has slammed the Abbott government's asylum seeker policy.

Admiral Chris Barrie described detention centres as "jails" and said the policies enacted by Immigration Minister Scott Morrison are a "mess that reflect badly on all of us".

Admiral Barrie said: "Australians are doing their utmost to extinguish hope, the most powerful of human emotions".

The comments came at a book launch in Sydney on Thursday.

So the point is - ah yes - he didn’t receive appropriate timely treatment.

Now having read the article, the one thing, and in fact the only thing worth noting is , it contains not one verifiable fact in support of the allegations made.

Sorry Boris but if you are happy for me totake issue with Nero for making subjective comments without actual facts in support then, being an even handed person, it cuts both ways.

I am happy for you to do whatever you wish but if my memory serves me correct, we have had this discussion about asylum seekers before and unless either of our opinions have changed, what would be the point of yet another one?

I wonder where we are heading

Science cuts 'fiscally irresponsible', Boyer lecture biologist says

The government must invest in scientific research, jobs and education to build a knowledge-driven economy and secure the nation’s long-term prosperity, eminent molecular biologist Professor Suzanne Cory will say as she delivers the 2014 Boyer lecture series for the ABC.

Cory is aware that her call comes at a time when Australian scientists are on edge. Last year the prime minister, Tony Abbott, axed the position of a dedicated science minister from cabinet. The CSIRO has suffered deep funding cuts of $115m and hundreds of jobs at the national science research institute are set to be lost.
