Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Up to 3,000 graduate nurses haven’t managed to get jobs in hospitals.

Unions are blaming a rise in the number of foreign nurses being brought into the country on 457 working visas.

Whilst ‘officially’ Australia only has a highly skilled migration program (namely, the 457 visa), the reality is that the Australian labour market is flooded with low skilled temporary migrant workers on other visas.

so I just spent 5 minutes looking for the little image of a skull on the bottom of nerowulfs "welfare" whine image so kindly posted - turns out it is from the US tea party, the words on it are -

extremely bleeped off right wingers - peace through superior firepower

the skull has 2 weapons in it's mouth.

I don't think it is appropriate for this kind of message/politics/symbol to be used in Australia.

I agree.

But different rules and no punishments for some that continue to use inappropriate images, say inappropriate things I guess?

Jackie Kelly calls Abbott government ‘lying, lying, lying toads’

Former Liberal minister says go-ahead for Badgerys Creek airport treats western Sydney residents ‘like schmucks’

Former Liberal minister Jackie Kelly has referred to the Abbott government as “lying, lying, lying toads” for betraying western Sydney on the Badgerys Creek airport.

Kelly, the Howard government star who resigned from the Liberal party two weeks ago over its failure to reform, has accused her former friend Tony Abbott of treating western Sydney residents “like schmucks” just “so the north shore can get their curfews”.

Tony Abbott’s electorate of Warringah is on Sydney’s north shore.

In his first infrastructure statement to parliament this week, Abbott said the decision to go ahead with Badgerys Creek airport was “irrevocable” and would be supported by a range of infrastructure, including roads and rail.

“That’s a crock,” Kelly told Guardian Australia. “They are lying, lying, lying toads.”

“They haven’t planned for it, there is no money on the table … Badgerys Creek will be a 24-hour airport mostly for freight.
