As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Tony Abbott has done irreparable damage to the prestige of Rhodes scholarship IMO.
I imagine Oxford University is doing an internal review to determine how someone this stupid was given a pass mark.

you do know that you can buy your certificates and that you can buy someone to write the stuff you need to get the certificate don't you?
it'a a matter of money.
if someone acts as if he was an imbecile and he says things only an imbezile would say...
well, i guess it's a duck then.

Yes.....but if it walks like a duck and looks like a duck and sounds like a duck it could be a wombat!
.....and we all know what wombats do...

Yes this needs investigation. I am wondering if he got his Rhodes Scholarship in the same way his daughter received her Scholarship.
He certainly does not seem to be any genius .
At least with Kim Beazley or Bob Hawke or that guy from the Nats John Stone, you could say yes these are very intelligent people if you agreed with politics or not.
They are worthy of an exclusive scholarship from a blood thirsty Colonialist.
But Abbott ....? ...................something is not right here.

Yes, my understanding is that it has been a time-hounoured dishonourable tradition in some universities to pay others to write your papers for you.
There was a guy here where I went to college who would ask us (his fellow students) to lend him our papers because he was running late with his own.
We didn't know that he was asking quite a lot of us for this until much later. At the time, he approached us individually and quite often as individuals, we would help him out, thinking we were the only ones to do so.
This stopped when we found out he was doing virtually no work of his own. . . but was still gaining Distinctions.

Been thinking shame that abbott the senior didn't get to realise his youth ambition - to be a catholic priest.
Could have been a sign on a door somewhere that read :
His Holeiness Bishop Dick Abbott

or The Most Reverend Bishop Dick Abbott
..... certainly no Excellence in that

Why does Tony Abbott, the successful Oxford graduate, appear so intellectually limited?
He is not plain stupid, but he is intellectually incomplete.
As such I judge him as wrong for the role of Prime Minister. I’d rather a real scholar in charge.

Abbott Govt has no moral compass.
One thing this present Govt will be remembered for is how they took money from the blind while keeping tax breaks for wealthy superannuants, property investors and multinational mining corporations.

Maybe it's a little difficult to offer intellectually sound arguments for what are apparently indefensible socially abhorrent policies and practices.
All the same though, this Rhodes Scholar isn't doing a very good job of appearing to be intelligent. But he doesn't need to. He has his job which gives him a generous pension and other perks on quitting retiring. He has his maaates in Business who will see him right later on.
He does appear to be stupid, but I bet he thinks to himself, as he counts his money "I don't care".
