As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

.....yes but luxury car/vehicle tax is only applied to new vehicles priced over whatever $ value.....sure you can fill us in on this MM!.....something like $65-$70K or more. I'm poor! but those who can afford a new 'luxury' car should pay tax.....their expensive accountants would claim it back on the hobby farm or family trust or something anyways I would imagine. Or maybe the tax dept has made rules that don't allow these luxury car buyers to claim???

Not sure but there must be some advantage and $'s to be gained by the elite to have this luxury tax canned.

The Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement (JEPA) comes into force today with the same blanket exemptions from Labour Market Testing (LMT) for workers that the Korean Free Trade Agreement has.

This means that all employers in Australia (both Australian and Japanese firms) will no longer have to seek qualified locals to fill vacancies in the skilled trade, nursing and engineering occupations and prove none could be found, before 457s are approved for Japanese workers. From now on LMT is permanently banned in all other 457 occupations.

Departing British High Commissioner says Australia's economy still the envy of the Western world

Departing British High Commissioner to Australia Paul Madden says Australia's economy is still the envy of the Western world and has revealed a common question asked by Brits he has chaperoned Down Under: "What have they got to moan about?". 

Despite sentiment among the Australian public that the economy is sluggish, Mr Madden, who returns to London in a fortnight, said that from Britain's perspective "the Australian economy has been doing pretty well".  

"Even now when it's slowing a bit, it's still the envy of the Western world for the most part.

"That's meant there's been a lot of business engagement from the UK in terms of trade-and-investment flows.

"Our exports to Australia are up 60 per cent over the last seven years.

"Admittedly your economy has started to slow a little bit now, so I think probably this year we'll cross over and our growth will be more than Australia's, but that will be the first time for a number of years.

Victorians voted Labor in because Napthine was blo ody useless.

He needed to take the bull by the horns and run with it while the going was good.

Andrews won by default because Napthine lost.

However, I think Andrews might do OK.
