As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Mr Strong Choices still thinks you're stupid
The Queensland Premier, Mr Strong Choices, has admitted that he may have – just may have, mind you – made a few mistakes, and that some people, some very stupid and ungrateful people, might have quite unreasonably punished him for their stupidity at the Stafford by-election. If it wasn’t their stupidity, it was the mendacity of the former sitting member, who turned against the Strong Choices Party, over the question of kicking government doctors in the ‘nads or the teeth.
“The former member just didn’t understand the strong choices we’ve had to make,” said Mr Strong Choices. “We had no choice but to kick those doctors in both the ‘nads and the teeth. Queenslanders who aren’t the stupid ones understand that. But unfortunately they weren’t voting on the weekend.”

even though this isn't directly about the govt it belongs here, especially since brandis rewording...the cartoon is from David Pope and isn't with the linked article.
The Gaza massacre, MH17 and the faux Fairfax foreign affairs narrative
Fairfax media is propagating an Israeli narrative on the brutalising of the West Bank and the massacre in Gaza, writes Dr Evan Jones.
FAIRFAX HAS DONE IT AGAIN.
Fresh from mis-representing the Western-backed coup in Ukraine and the subsequent carnage in Eastern Ukraine, the 'Independent. Always' Fairfax media is propagating an essentially Israeli narrative on the further brutalising of the West Bank and another massacre in Gaza.
Let's review their reports.
On the Sydney Morning Herald site, 17 July, was Thomas Friedman’s
‘In the new world disorder, a Gaza solution can only come from within’.
The article attributes blame for the carnage to Hamas for its unrepentant militancy and the PLO for its pathological weakness (against Palestinian militancy, not against Israel). The island of order (Israel) is surrounded by a sea of disorder (mad Arabs).
Apart from the article’s incoherence, there are the trademark evasions, arrogance and condescension.
Friedman is a mendacious tribalist, yet Fairfax editorial feels this partisan propaganda worthy of reproduction — to further enlighten us untutored antipodeans. In a 2003 article regarding reportage of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, I noted that Friedman was regularly reprinted in Fairfax. I emailed thenAge editor, Michael Gawenda (coincidentally, supportive of the 2003 invasion), to inquire of the attraction of this unattractive scribe.
Gawenda replied that Friedman is
'... one of the best foreign affairs writers around, vastly experienced, balanced.'
Friedman is part of the New York Times’ stable of Israel-firsters. On foreign affairs, the curiously respected NYT is merely an arm of the imperial American state. But on Israel, in particular, the paper is essentially an unremitting propaganda mouthpiece.

"Hello Debs, yes strange that during the pretend "budget crisis" the govt repeal the carbon "tax" which was bringing in 7 billion and even the weakened mining tax generated 1.7 million - not a lot, pitiful really but rather than get rid of it we should be fixing it so it brings in more revenue rather than it all going abroad, not very smart this mob."
"the carbon "tax" which was bringing in 7 billion" which promptly went out as compensation payments to the biggest polluters and domestic compensationl and did not add to the bottom line, in fact because of miscalculations, the "tax" has actually been draining the coffers, not adding to them.
I understand now why some are averse to history AND research!
"Although the (Labour) government promised the carbon tax would be revenue neutral, meaning the revenue it raised from taxing polluters would cover the household compensation and other costs, the concessions such as the exemption of petrol mean the tax will now blow a $4.2 billion hole in the budget over four years."
Whoops.
".........we should be fixing it so it brings in more revenue rather than it all going abroad.........."
Apart from the dividends to local investors and super funds who buy shares insted of whingeing about them and the companies who are prepared to invest many billions, like BHP. Oh gosh they are Australian and have more OS interests than Australian.
Revenue...."all going abroad". Wrong (again), My SMSF has shares in a few resource stocks and I am not abroad!
I think perhaps a return to C&P is in order, because the Independent bloggers therein whilst obviously biased, tend to be aware of history and leave out what is unpalatable, rather than not understanding and then commenting.upon it!
