Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

So you do the same? Clever (not). Do not falsely accuse me of doing that either.

Why federal-state relations are so hard to reform

Since Abbott's plan raises the possibility of tax reforms - "including changes to the indirect tax base" - he'll be lucky if the "mature debate" and "rational discussion about who does what" he seeks doesn't erupt immediately into an Abbott-strength scare campaign about increasing the goods and services tax, led by a Labor Party with a long record of hypocrisy on the topic and a thirst for revenge.

In such a climate, the various premiers facing re-election in coming months are likely to swear total opposition to any change in the GST. These days our politicians excel in the Mexican standoff.

Jacqui Lambie demands answers over ASIO leak 'attack'

Palmer United Senator Jacqui Lambie has demanded a personal briefing from ASIO's Director-General, accusing the spy agency of potentially "attacking" her by leaking against her push to ban the burqa.

And the Senator says the views of the security agency on the burqa are irrelevant, despite the Tasmanian parliamentarian previously arguing that it is a national security risk.

Until I heard her speak I had no idea there was a W in burqwa.

Clive Palmer to deliver for government’s Direct Action climate policy

CLIVE Palmer has struck a deal to implement the government’s Direct Action climate change policy, claiming a move that will “keep alive” the prospect of an emissions trading scheme.

As part of the deal, the government is delaying plans to abolish the Climate Change Authority until after the next federal election and will direct the body to investigate scope to ultimately introduce an emissions trading scheme.

Climate Change Authority chairman Bernie Fraser will initially report back to the government next month, with an interim report in June 2015 and a final report after United Nations climate talks in Paris.

The Palmer United Party senators Jacqui Lambie, Glenn Lazarus and Zhenya Wang will provide three of the six crossbench Senate votes required to pass the legislation.

The government needs the support of only three more between independents Nick Xenophon and John Madigan, Family First’s Bob Day, Liberal Democrat David Leyonhjelm and Australian Motoring Enthusiast Party senator Ricky Muir.

In April, Mr Palmer said his senators would not pass direct action. “It’s gone, it’s dead,” he said at the time.

Today Mr Palmer said: “This is a win-win situation, not just for our party, not just for the government, but for all Australians

some posters come across quite hypocritical sometimes don't them am3?.......they say nasty spiteful things etc......well, I believe the Truth is important above everything else....and this can be told without stooping to denigrating and abusive measures like name calling and interpersonal attacks that some are continually guilty of-without being apprehended. Repetitive attacks are low attempts to try and close down debate/threads. Pretty desperate times for the useless supporters of those in power atm!!

I enjoy reading the issues in this thread and appreciate the efforts of those that post links and news about the said topic. I do NOT appreciate being targeted by posters with ongoing personal attacks.....zero and minion disciple should go get hobbies or spend more time at the ASX if can't contribute in an adult, pleasant and respectful manner.

Debra, did hunt mention the Antarctic Walrus again or maybe protection for the Tassie Tiger...:womanlol:

  1. I promise this is true. Greg Hunt, is the man who some people refer to as the Environment Minister. In Opposition he advocated for the protection of the Tasmania Tiger, extinct since 1936. In Government he’s turned his attention to the Antarctic Walrus – population: zero. Walruses live in the Northern Hemisphere. Of course Shadow Environment Minister Mark Butler had to ask a question about it.

Diary of our stinking Govt.

"October 29, 2014 at 12:41 pm

I’m currently studying a Masters in Commerce (Accounting & Finance) at a University in Sydney. In some of my classes I might be the only non-international student. I am already a chartered accountant but enrolled in the masters course to freshen up my skills. There are many issues I see:

(1) the course is extremely easy to pass, I am shocked about how easy the assessments are. Many students are getting through with very poor English skills and high marks. For a Masters level University course it is not good enough and will ultimately devalue tertiary education in Australia. When I have questioned this, I was told that if they don’t do it this way too many students fail. It is all about quantity and not quality.

(2) It will devalue the accounting profession. The professional accounting bodies should be looking at the quality of accounting graduates being produced (poor) rather than the quantity. The accounting bodies have made a big mistake.

(3) It is true that the international accounting students are having difficulty finding work. Many of them keep enrolling in other master’s courses just to stay in the country. It is wrong of both the government and the universities to take advantage of these full-fee paying students under the premise that accountants are in short supply.
The system is broken…."

One in three women in Australia experience domestic violence.

I'm sure that all of them fear it.

I'm sure that all of them feel degraded also.

Washington| Former Prime Minister Julia Gillard has accused Rupert Murdoch’s newspapers of bias and inaccuracy, expressing concern about a lack of diverse political coverage in Australia.

“Some of the things that got published as facts were just so ridiculous that it distorted the public discussion,” Ms Gillard said in an address at the Brookings Institution.

Several women in the audience told Ms Gillard they had been appalled by her treatment and were inspired by her her speech
