As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Sibelco's influence on sand mining policy should go to CMC: Barrister
Writing in the online news magazine Independent Australia, Mr Keim says – unlike Mr Palmer - Sibelco did benefit from the LNP’s decision to extend the North Stradbroke Island’s mining leases from 2019 to 2035.

John Hewson criticises 'obvious inequity' of budget measures
Former Liberal party leader scathing of Coalition's approach as new report points to rising income inequality
“Australia’s unemployment benefit (currently called Newstart) is the lowest of all Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries. Many government benefits have barely kept pace with inflation over recent decades. Partly as a result, one child in six in Australia lives in poverty, and the unemployment benefit is now 20% below the poverty line."
Unemployed youth must apply for 40 jobs a month
Young job seekers forced to wait six months for unemployment benefits will be required to apply for 40 jobs a month, document their efforts to find work and meet regularly with an employment service provider, despite not receiving any payments.
Under proposals announced in the budget, job seekers aged under 30 will be ineligible for payments for six months after applying for benefits.

boris - I see one of the areas the Govt is going to 'target' unemployed youthin is the Shoalhaven.
Good luck trying to find 40 jobs a month to apply for there! There wouldn't be that many job vacancies (for unskilled/semi skilled workers) in Wgong, I wouldn't think, and that is a city of near 300 000 people. Not a regional/rural area like the Shoalhaven.
Currently I think the dole receipients have to phone businesses and ask if there are any job vacancies. We used to get quite a few calls like that where I worked.

Britain, New Zealand reject Tony Abbott's idea for alliance to block action on climate change
The UK's conservative climate and energy minister has rejected suggestions his government could form an alliance of "like-minded" nations with Australia to oppose carbon pricing.
Greg Barker has put an end to Prime Minister Tony Abbott's dream that a group of five countries could be formed to undermine global moves to install carbon pricing and challenge a push by US President Barack Obama for stronger international regulation of climate change.
The comments leave Canada, with its anti-carbon tax prime minister Stephen Harper as Australia's only likely ally on the subject.

I think that as the Coalition has still not implemented a budget, any increase in debt and resulting interest sine the election are a legacy of the ALP, that must be included.
This sums it up:
"The precise statement that you are attempting to "validate" is that we are paying $1B a month on the debt Labor left. That's Hockey's statement.
You acquire 3 independent assessments of the debt repayment and discover it is over $1B a month. Then you try to weasel word your way around to make the statement "exaggerated". In fact it is precisely correct.
He didn't say the debt that Labor left was all created by Labor, he said "what they left".
It appears that ABC "fact checking" decides on a conclusion then constructs an argument around it, in this case it has had to falsify evidence and then fact check something that wasn't said by the Treasurer."
Within the articles there are these comments:
".....When Labor came to power in 2007 there was zero net debt......." zero!
"The market rate for the 10 year Treasury bond is currently about 3.7 per cent a year." 3.7%
Standard and Poor's:
As a general rule, the more creditworthy an issuer or an issue is, the lower the interest rate the issuer would typically have to pay to attract investors. The reverse is also true: an issuer with lower creditworthiness will typically pay a higher interest rate to offset the greater credit risk assumed by investors.
Interesting, so why are we having to pay such a relatively high interest rate to borrow money, in fact nearly 50% more than the UK, and twice as much as France?
10yr bond rates
Australia 3.76%
UK 2.65%
Canada 2.33%
USA 2.55%
Germany 1.36%
France 1.82%
Italy 3.32%
NZ 4.33%
