As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

many years ago when I first began buying on eBay, the odd parcel was assessed by customs for duty. Before the threshold increased to 1000$.
I would receive a letter from Australia Post, saying, in essence, that a parcel was being held by AP with customs duty to be paid.
this I paid at the Post Office and they gave me the parcel. AP was collecting the money on behalf of customs.
July 2000 GST was introduced. GST assessment on items purchased online overseas is what we are discussing here isn't it (GST free import threshold)?
GST, Duty on import, it doesn't matter what it is they collect. Just because you and Glee want to split hairs isn't my problem.
Australia Post HAS collected money in the past - as outlined by Amber and myself - based on a Customs assessment and Invoice,
it could do it again.
Red herrings like where they will store parcels, who cares, let them sort it out.

whack....... is a good descriptive word
I'd agree to it in principle on the basis that it would be a lazy but brilliant way to 'up' the Fed Govt coffers LOL

Why is it a lazy way ?
It's Lazy the fact that they DON'T currently do it, have put it in the "too hard basket".
We know they could do it if they wanted because it has been done in the past with import duties
and 10% would be one hell of a lot easier than the thousands of duty categories that used to have
to be applied at different rates.
Yes, whack is a good word !
Thwacks even better

.........................................................................................................................................................
I cares!!
I care about people losing their jobs....
I care about not getting my parcel delivered to my address.........
I care about NOT WANTING to pay for a postal service that requires me to PICK my GOODS UP?!!
I care about Australia Post quality service standards going down the tube etc etc etc!!!
I care about delivery delays and parcels going missing with this carp idea...............
......what a stupid idea.....another stupid LNP agenda idea to hurt Australian services and workers....
just so more $'s can be siphoned for the coffers-and further abused by idiots that cannot budget

You will have to first ask the question WHY DID GOVT ABANDON years ago?
....and since this collection stuff at PO's went by the board many PO agencies are privately owned businesses.
You would have to ask these agents if they'd collect on behalf of the govt......i know the answer already!!!!
LOL

Because the duties and tarrifs gradually got decreased to zero on a lot of items over the last 10 - 15 years.
and one hell of a lot of PO's are Gov't owned.
Re the private PO's, well, it gets people into their shop then doesn't it, which allows them the opportuntiy to sell
them other goods and services. After all, shops have a problem attracting people, don't they ?
To be honest, one hell of a lot of it could be done on line, on line invoice, on line payment, then goods shipped to your door.

You really have not thought this thru whollistically, have you ?
......I do not like the word or rather phrase 'whack on' because it leads one to believe that what you suggest is an easy operation. Which is a simple lie in this case.
Like whacking a sausage on a hot BBQ.
Easy if you have a hot BBQ and a sausage......heaven help you if you have the BBQ too hot, no oil and no fork/tongs
You gotta know whatcha doin' or all you'll get is lots of smoke, a burnt snagger with the guts blown out & burnt fingers

It's a hell of a lot more simple than it used to be with a Myriad of duties, rates and tarriffs that used to have to be applied.
10% across the board at a certain level is a lot easier.
You all seem very good at hindering things, full of "Can't do this, Can't do that".
Christ, no wonder so many of you are whingeing about low ebay sales.

Nope. Have not sold me!
