Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

I think Mrs Abbott is just showing support for her husband in difficult times. She does not like the lime-light and has not been seen much until now

I have read his history. All the nitty gritty, including the charge that was thrown out where 7 witnesses disagree with what the girl said occurred.

You know, that's the biggest problem these days. Everyone expects their issues/wants/needs to be fixed. Life ain't like that. Both parties are so similar it's like fighting siblings. And frankly, some of the public need re-educating on the bigger issues in life.

Didn't really achieve anything 'ground breaking' did he after graduating?, him being a Rhodes Scholar and all.

Tony Abbott went on to attend Sydney University studying both economics and law.

Notable friends of Abbott at University included Greg Sheridan who is now the Foreign Editor of The Australian.

While at University, Tony Abbott was charged with indecent assault (the case was later dismissed by a Judge).

He was also caught by the police vandalising a street sign, which also resulted in an appearance before a Judge who found him guilty but recorded no conviction.

During his time at University, his then girlfriend told him that she was pregnant. Marriage was discussed before Abbott developed "cold feet" and the relationship ended. As abortion wasn't an option, they decided to adopt the baby out. [DNA testing years later proved that Tony Abbott wasn't the father.]

After graduating University with a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Law, he went on to study at Queen's College, Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. He graduated with a Master of Arts (MA) in Politics and Philosophy.

After returning to Australia, he entered the St Patrick's Seminary in Manly where he studied to become a Catholic priest.

While at the Seminary, he wrote articles for The Catholic Weekly and The Bulletin.

In 1987, he quit the Seminary and started looking at a future in politics, although he continued writing for The Bulletin.

Later that same year, Tony Abbott met New Zealander Margie Aitkin, who would later become his wife.

After marrying Margie, Abbott decided that writing for The Bulletin was boring and he wrote to a number of "business leaders" asking them for a job.

His plea for a job was answered by Sir Tristan Antico, a "prominent member of the wider Jesuit network" who offered Tony Abbott the position of Plant Manager at Sydney Concrete in Silverwater.

Abbott soon quit the job as it wasn't paying enough money and accepted a position with The Australian as a journalist.

He continued writing at The Australian until John Howard recommended Tony Abbott for a position as the then Federal Liberal leader John Hewson's press secretary.

Yes, she probably is... not going to fix his problems though and I think he thinks it will. If she wasn't keen to accompany him before now (which is fair enough), seems a bit 'forced' to be doing so now.

The gun trade and hunting.

Guns are flying out the door. One shop, a small one sold 100 guns of ONE type in. 6 months. 5000 were sold in 6 months in Aus.
Then add all the other types he sold on top of that.
Then multiply that by 800 shops in Aust, some far bigger than him.

Guns and hunting stuff rarely slows down, i haven't known it to slow in the last 10 years.

Everybody always buys guns and Ammunition.
