As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Tony Abbott went on to attend Sydney University studying both economics and law.
Notable friends of Abbott at University included Greg Sheridan who is now the Foreign Editor of The Australian.
While at University, Tony Abbott was charged with indecent assault (the case was later dismissed by a Judge).
He was also caught by the police vandalising a street sign, which also resulted in an appearance before a Judge who found him guilty but recorded no conviction.
During his time at University, his then girlfriend told him that she was pregnant. Marriage was discussed before Abbott developed "cold feet" and the relationship ended. As abortion wasn't an option, they decided to adopt the baby out. [DNA testing years later proved that Tony Abbott wasn't the father.]
After graduating University with a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Law, he went on to study at Queen's College, Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. He graduated with a Master of Arts (MA) in Politics and Philosophy.
After returning to Australia, he entered the St Patrick's Seminary in Manly where he studied to become a Catholic priest.
While at the Seminary, he wrote articles for The Catholic Weekly and The Bulletin.
In 1987, he quit the Seminary and started looking at a future in politics, although he continued writing for The Bulletin.
Later that same year, Tony Abbott met New Zealander Margie Aitkin, who would later become his wife.
After marrying Margie, Abbott decided that writing for The Bulletin was boring and he wrote to a number of "business leaders" asking them for a job.
His plea for a job was answered by Sir Tristan Antico, a "prominent member of the wider Jesuit network" who offered Tony Abbott the position of Plant Manager at Sydney Concrete in Silverwater.
Abbott soon quit the job as it wasn't paying enough money and accepted a position with The Australian as a journalist.
He continued writing at The Australian until John Howard recommended Tony Abbott for a position as the then Federal Liberal leader John Hewson's press secretary.
He's the PM. Same as Hawke

Everybody always buys guns and Ammunition.
What a gross exaggeration. You would do well as a politician.
He's the PM. Same as Hawke
Thanks for that. Not sure that anyone reading this thread doesn't already know that though. How many PM's ago was Hawke?

Independent Senator Jacqui Lambie hopes Malcolm Turnbull will replace Tony Abbott as Prime Minister.
Senator Lambie hopes the change will be made before Monday afternoon, when she has a longstanding appointment with the Prime Minister.
"I would like the Liberals to quickly sort out who is going to be PM and stop their bickering," Senator Lambie said in a statement. "It's only adding to the loss of consumer confidence and economic chaos, which began after Joe Hockey delivered last year's budget from hell."
Senator Lambie's spokesman said while her preference was for Mr Turnbull to become Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop would also be "a very good choice".

I responded to your post about Abbot not having done anything with his Rhodes Scholarship.
And, those who disregard the past are doomed to repeat it.

I was commenting on Abbott for the period in his life after he graduated until he became PM.. didn't do anything remarkable at all in that time frame for a Rhodes Scholar. I don't think 'sledging' counts.
He only bet Turnbull by one vote to become Leader of the LNP didn't he? Plus he only became PM because he wasn't Rudd or Gillard.. not because he was super talented, charismatic or anything like that!!
Failed priest, could soon be failed PM! So there could only be 16 mths of his life he was PM, the rest is unremarkable.
