Oh no.  Ernie ate some plastic ducks and went swimming too soon and sank; according to the lone witness.

Anyway, I still reckon that Wally is in the fisherman's pocket in Punch's post 77.

ok, i've been told posts are missing in their entirety. That's a real shame Smiley Sad

It saddens me that people feel they are not welcome to post in the photo thread.

I look at every single photo, no matter how many have been posted by that same person, no matter how good or not good I consider that's person's picture-taking ability to be, and regardless of whether they're Aussies or my fellow Americans. Then I kudo accordingly. Frankly, I don't get why someone would choose just to "scroll past" a photo or a series of photos if they're truly approaching the challenge threads with fair-mindedness and a welcoming attitude towards all posters.

I've looked at the past challege themes and when they're something like "Passion" or "Empty" you can expect the submissions to be more conceptual and. consequently, less in number. More literal ones like "Water" and "Signs" and "Wood" are naturally, for the most part, going to give rise to more literal interpretations. And,. consequently, more submissions because those photos are easier to take. But that doesn't mean a lot of care and thought weren't put into each and every one of those photos too.

I liked the challenge this week and loved looking at all the photos. It's been very hot and humid where I'm living and I wanted to dunk my head in every photo.

But that's just me. I'm not someone given to constant complaining and criticizing anyway.

It's easy enough to figure out which comments are directed against whom. Not a lot of subtlety employed on these complaint photo discussion threads.

The fact of the matter is, not everyone is welcome to post on the challenge thread by some people, whether they're honest enough to come right out and admit it or not.

I'm guilty of this and don't think it's unwelcoming or unfair 😞 I don't publicise which photos I do this to but if a photo or series of photos don't appeal to me then I scroll past. I'm sure plenty do it to photos of mine as well, that's fine, these things are subjective. I'm not under the impression that everyone is going to 'get' my photos just as I'm not going to be drawn to others.

The photo challenge is a light hearted way to make people take a moment now and then to notice and capture something that fits the prompt. It's a personal challenge that is being shared with others and I'm not sure I really understand why it polarises people so much?

Scrolling past and choosing not to kudo a photo is fine. But scrolling past and not even looking at the photo for more than the nanosecond it takes to get it off your screen? I'm not saying you do that, cosmosgrove, but some other people are giving the clear impression that's what they do. And it seems to be based more on the particular poster whose photo it is, rather than the photo itself.

To each their own, I guess. I'm just saying that I would never do that myself.

TCM and I for instance, have had some battle royales, LOL. But I love her photos and don't let past disagreements interfere with my honest opinion of them. I think some people can't be as fairminded and it takes the fun out of this supposedly "fun" challenge thread. As do the constant criticisms.

But that's just the way I feel about it. I'm sure other people don't care one way or the other.

Smiley Sad

Normally I write Everyone is Welcome in the opening post of the challenge thread. I didn't post it this time because I thought everyone knows this, and I was tryin to keep the opening blurb short. There are always politics at play in forums. This is a public forum and there are quite a number of 'silent' contributors to the thread. A popular photo will get from 24 - 30 votes so even if there some less than welcoming community members they are outweighed by the unbiased voters. The last few winners have been the newcomers and I noticed earlier that was the case again this week.

There are times I wonder if it is worth continuing this thread, but then I look at the people who have kudoed the favourite pictures and I can see that people who no longer have much to say in CS still view and vote, so I guess they are still getting pleasure from the thread, and for that reason I hope it continues and people keep posting.
