Re: Discussion thread for Metal Photo Challenge

As a kid growing up in Geelong, the traffic lights were a box on a pole on the corner with multiple slots.........they would count down the green, go yellow, then red.........but for the life of me I can't find an image of them.

Re: Discussion thread for Metal Photo Challenge

When did you move to America?

My husbands family took a boat from Scotland to N.Z. when he was about 9 or 10. They lived there for 3 years, and then took another 6 week boat trip back to Scotland.

OH... and I do know that N.Z. is not part of Australia. duh. However, N.Z. is much closer to Aus. than America or Scotland.

Re: Discussion thread for Metal Photo Challenge

Thanks TCM. I like that they're still the same. It always cracks me up when I see people pounding on those little buttons expecting the light to change faster. They don't ever really seem to work...I think they're just put there as an illusion to make people feel like they have some kind of control. : )

Btw...does anyone else use their phone to take pictures? I love mine. It makes it so convenient and handy, I hardly ever took pictures before.

Re: Discussion thread for Metal Photo Challenge

1958, in November.  We owned a house in San Leandro, near Oakland, CA.  I met my first real girlfriend on the boat.........her name was Gail leBas dePlumetot........and she was the daughter of a French diplomat..........and I was 10 years old and madly in love.

Re: Discussion thread for Metal Photo Challenge

From the photo thread:

pollysd  - One more....from inside the mexican restaurant where my family celebrated what would have been my Grandma's 100th birthday today.

My family sometimes celebrates what would have been a parent/Aunt/Uncle's 100th birthday too.

My Grandma lived till 105yo but so far none of her 10 children made it to 100, 97yo closest so far. One Aunt and one Uncle, still alive in their 90's.

My paternal ancestors moved from Scotland to Australia, didn't like it there (too hot, scared of snakes) and moved on again to NZ.. so the story goes anyway.

Re: Discussion thread for Metal Photo Challenge

Hi am*3. This was actually the first time my family's done that before. We never had a real memorial for her since she outlived most of her friends and the few that remained were house bound. My grandma loved both the beach and mexican food. So we went to this restaurant right across from the ocean to remember her, share stories and give a toast. It seemed fitting....and was a lot of fun.

My maternal great grandmother moved from Scotland to Canada before later moving to the U.S. I think it was kind of daring of her to leave for another country all by herself in that day and age. I don't think that was very common for women back then. I've always wanted to visit Scotland to trace my roots.

Re: Discussion thread for Metal Photo Challenge

pollysd - It wuld be quite daring  & daunting to move from UK to Aust, NZ, Canada or US in those days. Especially as conditions were pretty rough when they got to their destination, down this part of the world anyway.. they had to clear the land of bush and build their own houses etc.
