People are so disheartened with this government that no matter what they say now they are not believed, they are a victim of their own spin.
When the electorate stop listening it's political death for a government & I'm afraid that is what this government is facing on Set 14th.

We don't get to hear much of what they say, just the snippets selected to make them sound stupid, thanks to some.

I get my political news from many places, I read, watch the ABC Drum, Capital Circle, Q&A & the 7.30 report & the numerous "Press conferences" going for 30 minutes or more on Sky & I feel I'm quite informed.
I do not blame the media for Labor's woes, they did that all by themselves.

Do Australians struggle to realise their Good Fortune ?
Speaking only for myself as a long time 'New' Australian.... Yes I do realise my good fortune, and thank my lucky stars for it every single day.
Australia has been 'the lucky country' in general for me, but mostly because I made every effort to make good here.
I was born in South Africa and have visited there a couple of times since leaving at aged 9 and I can say without a shadow of doubt that there is little, to no good, fortune left to realise for anyone remaining there these days.
I would liken my native country to the Titanic with Capetown being about the very last part of the ship still showing above the waves, but even there it's near time to jump over the side and take your chances in the icy swells below.
I love my original country, but I must face the truth of the present day situation.
If you feel Australia is troubled in various ways I suggest you broaden your horizons by traveling to many other countries where you will soon discover that life could be far worse, and accept that, "There but for the grace of God go you."

Well done on your personal achievment's.
I have travelled extensively & I agree with you that Australia is a garden of Eden blessed with great riches & beauty. The people are hard working & easy going, that's why it is so hard to see where we are headed with massive debt that the experts are saying will take decades to address.
We were in such good shape, we missed the GFC & we had the biggest resources boom in our history, that is why so many are sad to see what has been done to this great country, crippling debt & the loss of control over so many areas, it's sad.

we didn't miss the GFC at all, our labor government managed our economy better. the links in post 15 help dispell the misinformation campaigns by comics such as the Oztralian.

Which experts?
There are just as many who say our debt is low and will not take years to address.
Just as many people would rather decent schools for our kids, decent communications system, NDIS, cancer treatment centres, than money in the bank while our infrastructure collapses.
Just what is this loss of control?
And just where is all this crippling debt?

You just need to travle to Bali to see how great we have it.
Unfortunately both politicians and the media need to profit in some way telling us how horrible our country is and will be in the future.
An anxious mob is easy to control.
I'm sure there are some disabled or elderly or unwell Australian's who are really struggling, for the rest of us we have clean beaches, clean drinkable water, can travel between states unchecked, we have great food and we for the moment have better working conditions than say China.
We used to label the English as whingers because they had it so good for so long, I guess we are the Whingers now.
