For those non Victorians, who cannot comprehend what if feels like to be in lockdown for as long as we have been.
If there was to be another outbreak, would you rather the government lock you down for say 6 month and close the vast majority of businesses or the government observe your right to freedom?

Many years ago - a friend went to Naru - to teach - she did her driving test on the island.
She passed - it was on the airstrip - the whole island is 20.98 square kilometers.
She should never have been allowed to drive - even there.

A country where the Government has not fulfilled it's moral obligation is the US. Part of the reason is Trump, but another reason is the preoccupation many Americans have with freedom and rights. In lots of cases, those Americans made bad decisions. A responsible leader would take charge, but Trump hasn't and won't. Taking charge is doing what is necessary to protect all people, especially those at risk of being infected by others who refuse to cooperate with medical advice. While it's been hard, I think the way it's been managed in Australia and NZ has been sensible.

Should you be able to choose your own level of protection or should the government force your compliance and legislate against your stupidity?
Interesting questions...
Our law is really there to cater for the stupid as you say. Jim Jefferies says it all.

I didn't hear anything about actual rights though. Which was part of your initial premise - that we have any in this country.

Can you elaborate on what you're asking?

As a non Victorian, I couldn't care less if the world goes into lockdown. It didn't affect me one bit when my state was in lockdown. It also didn't affect me one bit when I had to self isolate. I actually didn't notice a difference in isolation.
You see, I am a home bod. I go out to go to work (an essential service, so won't be shut down with lockdowns), and begrudgingly go out to buy food. I know I could do home delivery, but it gets me out of the house for an hour. I also go to the PO when needed.
I have zero interest in socialising. I have zero interest in going to a cafe or a restaurant. I like being in my little piece of the world.

Today's Courier Mail has an article on the recent election debate between Palaszczuk and Frecklington. The vast majority of comments were by Liberal supporters. They argued that the borders were opened too late, the restrictions have unnecessarily damaged the economy and lazy public servants should be cut in numbers. With respect to Covid, comments were made that people in Queensland can look after themselves and don't need Government to manage the pandemic.
I was quite surprised as it felt like the comments were being made by people living in a US State. But based on the comments, it seems they would argue that Government does not have a moral obligation to keep us healthy. Those Liberal supporters seem to think they are just fine taking care of themselves.
