Do allergies get worst as you get older??

I've noticed I seem to respond more to hay fever these days but don't remember it having much of an effect on me when I was younger.

I also noticed when I eat prawns now I get a slight itchness which I don't recall ever having.

Is this an age thing???

"I suffered severely with ecexema (sp) as a baby and toddler, then was free from it, now that I am in my 60's it has returned, dr. said it is due to age.

Have tried various ointments on it, nothing much seems to work."

purple_haize, try plain shea butter (100%), it's a lovely moisturiser and helps to reduce the itchiness.

it's natural, a little goes a long way, it can be soft or hard depending on the temperature, just rub a little between your fingers to melt it a little if it's solid...works for me. I have very dry skin that's prone to getting a painful patch (so dry it bleeds) now and then.

Vegetable based soap also helps as it's less drying then ordinary ones.

I use L'Occitane products (both the vegetable soap and the shea butter), but there's quite a few places to get that stuff.

I remember an old wives tale related to things like skin complaints/hayfever/asthma etc  It was about 7 year cycle, meaning people might have excema for their first 7 years then be free of it for 7 years, comes back for 7 etc etc etc.  I'm sure it didn't mean 7 years on the dot haha and whether there is any truth in it, I don't know.  Any one else remember the saying?

Bob, if you are having a reaction to prawns, be aware it will worsen with each exposure, as your body ramps up its response. You should carry antihistamines with you at all times and get a referral to an allergy specialist.

Ms. Mioux.........do you need a script for an epipen?

Sorry purple, I've only just read your question.

I buy my epi-pen over the counter at any pharmacy but it's expensive ($105) and they only last a year and you have to throw them out. You can get them on prescription for much cheaper but I think an allergy specialist needs to give you the script. I saw an allergy specialist 4 years ago, he was hopeless so I'm not going back for a script.

I figure $10 a month is a great price for peace of mind.

Thanks for that Ms. Mioux........it was for my granddaughter, she is severely allergic to mozzies, will tell my daughter, as Isla is in the care of a specialist and he might be able to give her a script.

I might save up myself and get one for me.

thanks.....

I get very bad reactions to bites too, it's getting worse with time but I think that's more to do with the type of mozzies which are around.
