Do you object to BAG INSPECTIONS at stores

Do you object to BAG INSPECTIONS at stores?

Do you object to staff asking to inspect your bag? (they are only doing their job)

Will you shop at a  store that asks to inspect your bag or will you go elsewhere?

Do bag inspections and security checks help to stop shop lifting and keep prices down?

If you object WHY?

Do you think that objecting to a bag inspection makes a person look guilty or they are guilty?

Rememer that its a condition of entry at just about every major /medium/small store in Australia

anyway, it seems that there is a preponderance of thoroughly cowed and intimidated shoppers on this thread.

That is one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever read on here.

We ( the non - objecting bag opening people) go out shopping here and there and NEVER feel intimidated or cowed because some store staff want to take a peek in our shopping bag.

The ones who make a big fuss about it have the problem.

I enjoy shopping, have never felt intimidated in any store for any reason.

Besides that, I have a 'honest' face and rarely get asked to show my shopping bag to door staff.Woman Wink

The bit about "obeying orders" was a defence used at Nuremburg, without success, am*3.

It's those ordinary people who just stand by and say nothing, while accepting and tolerating opression as a matter of course, which eventually can lead on to the real scary stuff.

acacia - I don't know why you even bother to concern yourself with people who have no objection to the few seconds effort of showing their bags to door staff.. they can refuse if they want to. They chose  TO COMPLY.. their choice.

When I did a Law subject at TAFE the law teacher said we don't have to show our bags at stores if we don't want to. I am well aware of that. I chose to.

which eventually can lead on to the real scary stuff... now you are just getting carried away.

It's because these "ordinary people", by their acceptance of oppression, help to make that oppression a normal part of our lives.

Their refusal to register an objection, normalises oppression for others in society, and that's a bad thing.

Shopping to girls is shopping.. accept that. We go there to buy stuff -  essential or treats.. no one is going to make me feel scared  of scary things that could  eventuate in life because of store bag check policies.

Re: Do you object to BAG INSPECTIONS at stores

firstly, what most people accept is up to them,

secondly the bit most are missing is its only a store policy and not a legal requirement to comply

thirdly no one has to be rude to the staff above continuing to walk past them and ignoring the request to open bags, as the request is not legal and they have no authority to request you to comply .

if people wish to be compliant sheeple that's up to them, but as its not a legal requirement its falls into the bad luck category if you don't like it from me

Having lived in a Police State, it always amuses me somewhat when I hear people making Nazi analogies in reference to life in Australia.

Some could think that someone like me, especially, would object to having my shopping bags inspected.  I don't.  I understand why such Conditions are necessary.  Common sense, people.

i don't think most are missing that at all.  i believe that what you are missing is an understanding that a store owner has a legal right to ask you to leave the store if you do not comply with the conditions (entering under licence) and has legal right to ask you not to return.  the question i have is, why would anyone choose to put themselves in such circumstances where the only options were to never shop in those places again or take legal action, having to prove they were discriminated against.
